Cf. the Bezos Post, "Republicans gerrymandering in Texas is fine, actually" b/w "Democrats gerrymandering in Virginia is a threat to democracy"

I think Dusty's been pretty underrated on the whole, given the wide variety of places he succeeded in; that's one of the more direct ways to compare manager performance, I would think! Plus, those changes often looked similar! And he was clearly more flexible than people gave him credit for.
Comparing to the '26 pen's abundance of walks, it feels noticeable. And some of that is going to be the pieces assembled, I think Espada has done a decent job working with what he's been given, but...
RT this partly because it's interesting, partly because it's something that I might want to look into more later
The Astros put Taylor Trammell on the injured list with a groin strain. They now have 16 players on the injured list, including their Opening Day starter and center fielder, everyday shortstop, six-time All-Star closer and two other members of their season-opening rotation
Brice Matthews has less of a track record so I'm more hesitant of good results, but sure, throw him on the pile too
I mean, obviously the Astros' pitching needs to get better, but Isaac Paredes re-finding his swing and getting the team's offense up to 8 R/G or whatever could also work...
Cam Smith. Eyes emoji.
anyway, if this court is going to act as little more than a partisan legislature than it ought to be treated like one by the actual legislature
it is, among other things, incredibly striking to see that roberts was so solicitous of the burden the clean power plan might put on fossil fuel executives, when, a decade later, he is indifferent to the way trump’s moves have thrown hundreds of thousands of lives into turmoil.
If they settle, I think it's an impeachable offense for both him and the AG.
i can't believe it, the 2026 Astros have somehow procured a quality start. miracles do exist
*Astros are tied with the Orioles for most players currently on the MLB Injured List (13).

I will take "Gordon throws 6 innings and limits the Rockies to 6 runs or fewer" as a massive win for the Astros rn, and even that seems like it might be too ambitious
Glad to see Oasis made it, even if I kind of expected it! And my mom is going to be glad to hear Luther made it in!
Good: A starting pitcher actually made it through at least 5 innings.
Bad: Pretty much everything else.

This whole thing was a setup for TV and that any news organization takes this even remotely at face value is going to turn me into the Joker.

that's maybe the least-good a bases-clearing double can feel, but as it turns out, it's still pretty good!
what if they open the capsule and there's just a fifth person in there? do we have a protocol for that, or?
MLB Teams by FIP and wRC+, April 10, 2026
#Astros: 144 wRC+, best in baseball (very good!)
5.18 FIP, second-highest in baseball (not good!)
I like Baltimore's and Kansas City's quite a bit! San Diego's is also good, but I'd probably like it more if it wasn't replacing maybe the best City Connect

reminding me of the first Yordan injury last year, in that something was clearly wrong just based on the performance, so "injury" is a better reason than "he's just bad now"; but also, this sucks
I'd like to think that my complaining was the direct source of this rally lol
Kinda related, did anyone ever look at what happened to all the Republicans that tried to claim credit for the IRA after voting against it? I remember a number of them popping up and getting criticism online, but I never saw anything tracking how they fared in elections after.
It's funny looking at the results and seeing they're basically middle of the pack in pitching and offense. The pitching feels like a minor surprise, but the offense feels like a major disappointment
This Orioles offense just doesn't feel as good as it should.
Average number of days missed for a shoulder strain: 44 days.

again very funny to think that a critical pro trump message in 2024 was that he wouldn’t start world war iii
