We are in the middle of a subscription drive for our new food and culture site. We are worker-owned, have no investors or VC money, and will never use gen AI to make any written, visual or audio work. If that sounds good to you, sign up for a paid subscription or donate today! www.weareravenous.com
This is a great essay by @jasondiamond.bsky.social and worth your time to read.
Thanks, Karen!
As much as things have changed since writer Jason Diamond was his daughter Lulu’s age, the possibility still terrifies him, he writes in this essay for The Cut.
I guess we all look alike after a certain age?
Actually…
He’s much younger than me.
Was just mistaken for Jerry Saltz.
Ill always have some hope as long as there are still people making stuff by hand. For the NYT Styles section, I wrote about a few folks keeping embroidery alive in America. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/30/s...
Yesterday a 30-something mom told me Lulu is lucky to have a “cool Gen. X parent.”
Somebody thinking they could use AI to scam their way into being the rare writer who makes a lot of money seems plausible, I suppose.
I’ve called it many things. That sounds like one of them.
My most naive take on anything AI is I can’t wrap my head around somebody saying they want to be a writer and then they get AI to do the work for them. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/19/b...
Woooah. I’ll be in Florida tomorrow and it’s the first thing I’ll get.
A short story about writers at AWP but they’ve been dead the entire time.
Well if I can make a Philly person happy then I’ll consider it a success.

I have a column at @thecut.com now where I’ll be writing about fatherhood, and I figured I’d kick it off by talking about how I decided to start taking Zepbound because I want to do everything possible to be able to annoy my daughter for at least another 50 years. www.thecut.com/article/figu...
A color portrait of American country singer Lyle Lovett, emphasizing his distinctive pompadour and angular chin. Yìchén hadn’t heard of Lovett before, but now he takes a few minutes from his current investigation to search out Lovett on QQ Music. Yìchén surprises himself by liking what he hears. At night he catches himself humming the melody to “That’s Right (You’re Not From Texas).”

I will be chasing that blissful colonoscopy sleep I just had for a long time.
Very pro-colon blowing.
I’ve been thinking with all the talk of colorectal cancer being up in younger folks that now is the time to bring them back.
I wrote about the cowardly lions of corporate America under Trump and their decades-long push to shape the country’s political life and democracy, no matter their protestations to the contrary now. Gift link: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Going to see Iron and Wine at a winery tonight.
At least it’s pączki season.
Nah. We knew how this would end.

I’ll always be grateful to the very scary skinhead who basically bullied me into listening to Billy Bragg when I was 15. consequence.net/2026/01/bill...
