My grandfather was a professor who taught French language and literature, and Yiddish has as much value as French there, especially here in the US.

Save Yiddish at Harvard! Please join us in sending letters. Share this campaign as widely as possible!

If all the discourse about antisemitism at Harvard had actually been about antisemitism at Harvard (as opposed to pro-Palestine protesters -- many of them Jews), it would probably matter to more people that Harvard is decimating the study of Yiddish on its campus. (1)

Because flu shots make you gay, and having gay soldiers isn't warfightery enough for him.

Yeah, but he sticks to bourbon, and leaves the party drugs to Kash Patel.

Hell, why have modern medicine in the military at all? Let's get back to vicious battlefield amputations. Anesthesia is woke.

Who ARE those guys?

If it's In-n-Out Burger, you need to eat them within about 10 seconds after they leave the fryer so they don't get soggy.
(The obvious compromise would be to convince 5 Guys to make Animal Style Fries for you :-)

We are looking at a painting of St Liphardus - a 6th-century lawyer, hermit and abbot in Meung-sur-Loire near Orléans, France. He is wearing bishops clothing including a surplus and mitre and is holding a crook. On a lead is a small knee high green and blue dragon.

We’re very sorry sir but you cannot bring your emotional support dragon in here.

I'm sorry, gentlemen, but part of the emotional support my emotional support dragon provides is letting us go into
anywhere we want, because being rejected makes me feel sad.
And your door is made of wood.

Yup. Criminal trial court did the frustrating right thing and didn't let the police get away with framing him,
and civil trial also did the right thing by awarding the family wergild because he really DID kill her.

I do think the Red Dwarf "Time-traveling JFK fired the shot from the Grassy Knoll" version's one of the more credible ones :-)

And now we've got a President trying to Immanentize the Eschaton.

That's an actually good theory; better than mine that, sort of like
Murder on the Orient Express, a dozen groups wanted to kill JFK
but instead of working together they all did their own thing and Oswald got there first.

And the Birchers had lots of conspiracy theories to tap into.

Look at Photo 2. There's a bush behind the tables at the end of the building behind the cars. It's not in Photo 3.
I'm guessing the driver tried to turn the car as well as trying to brake.

Had a neighbor who drove through the back of her garage when I was a kid; manual transmission and wrong gear.

Oh, right, I'd forgotten there was a newer Star Trek where warp drive works by getting you warped on mushrooms.

The kinds of people who say things like your post, knowing that it means more anti-drug laws, more police, more jailing people, and more interference with potentially valuable medical tools as well as people having fun.

Ah, sorry. No, being an activist judge with bad opinions isn't grounds for impeachment, just as being an activist judge with good opinions wasn't grounds for impeaching Earl Warren.

If his wife was consulting for coal companies when he did that,
that'd be arguable bribery and a different case.

When I started working at Bell Labs ~50yrs ago, they made all new employees take a business writing course. Invaluable.
Main advice was "complicated ideas need simpler writing" and "write like a journalist, short important parts up front so people can decide how much to read and whether to tl;dr."

Once saw a description of a Hong Kong action flick where the
Bad Guy says "Only Deus ex machina can save you now!"
and Deus ex Machina floats down from the ceiling and saves them.
My wife and I said "that's so cheesy, we totally have to see it!",
and it definitely delivered on its promise.

Also probably scared of cats, and has heard they hang out in bodegas.

Plenty of good reasons for impeaching Obama, most notably leaving Gitmo open and later explicitly violating the War Powers Act by not getting Congress's permission to continue after 60 days,
but the Republicans thought yelling about Benghazi would be more effective politically; probably correct.

I don't see TV commercials at home, but we went out to dinner tonight and the TV I saw there had basketball, with commercials for Tom Steyer and (ugh) sports betting in between.

May or may not be mine, depending on whether a Republican gets in or who the other Democrat is if we get lucky.

(And appallingly, I've heard that the California Libertarian Party leadership has endorsed both Republicans if their own candidate doesn't get into the runoff, which nobody expects.)

Supporting Brexit should be enough of a disqualifier.
Not only for the racist motivation, but because economically it was a total own-goal shoot-yourself-in-the-foot move.

X post by Xavier Becerra:

"Steve Hilton appears in the Epstein files. I'm sure he'll explain himself."

Screen shot of email from July 24, 2011 from Jeffrey Epstein to Ian Osborne, asking if David Cameron could be at a meeting - the email quotes Osborne who asks if Woody Allen could be present at a meeting with Epstein and Rohan Silva, head of then Prime Minister Cameron's policy unit and Steve Hilton, Director of Strategy.

🧵With @becerraforca.bsky.social surging in the polls, & @realtomsteyer.bsky.social doing well also, this is a good time to remind Californians that Brit Steve Hilton, Brexit fan, Fox News personality, & Trump endorsed, also appears in the Epstein files! No MAGA Gov for CA!

Trump45 had passed Warren Harding Administration levels of personal corruption by his first week or two in office, but didn't get close to Andrew Jackson until later in his first term.

I'm still registered 3rd party, so I'll have to ask one of you actual Democrats to suggest to him that he not let the door hit him in the ass on the way out.

Shipping Antimatter by Truck to Understand the Universe The BASE experiment at CERN has figured out how to transport antimatter by truck, enabling scientists to study antimatter in greater detail without interference from CERN's giant magnets.

They used a truck. A series of tubes just wasn't going to handle antimatter.
