I think another factor is Steam natively recommends games you own for nominations for these categories. Likely the real innovative games didn't sell nearly as well as Ark did.

I do not know anything about Silent Hill F, so I can't speak to that one. Larion does keep putting out patches, so that plus just how many people still play BG3 I understand.

I agree with you on the innovative category being a weird choice. Ark was good, but there were way more innovative games.

With this incentive structure becoming more normalized in tech, I've never felt more like cattle in my years of work like I do now. Just being saved for the right rainy day stock increase 🫠

I think one of the contributors to this difference is just how our generation was blasted with advertisements/commercials, as well as way merchandise to buy, compared to our parents generation. It planted in us really early to attach ourselves to a brand/IP.

My parents were like this as well. I think part of it is that their generation was on such a more standard timetable of life events, and were judged more harshly at the time by their peers if they went off that timetable. Marriage, buying a home, kids, ect.
