Weekend after a week of low carbon electricity. Wind and solar continue to power a nation whose electricity prices are tethered to the price of gas.

I can highly recommend this thread + linked article. Reading it I now properly understand how marginal pricing works and why the linkage between gas and electricity pricing in the uk has weakened recently and should be largely history within 4 years (as it already is in Spain) and how CfD helps.

Cars are stationary 97% of the time.

The average person drives 50 miles a week.

The average EV does 270 miles on a charge.

A modern car only needs 20 minutes to charge.

Only 0.047% of EVs stationary time needs to be plugged in annually.

If you don’t do any of this do you even need a car.

Gas Stoves Account For More Than Half of Some Americans’ Exposure to a Known Toxin, New Research Concludes - Inside Climate News The common kitchen appliance plays an outsized role in exposure to nitrogen dioxide, a toxic air pollutant.

We got rid of our gas stove about 4 years ago when I inadvertently discovered (thanks to charging a portable AQ monitor in the kitchen while cooking dinner) that the damned thing was leaking several toxic chemicals into our air. I wish we had given it the boot much sooner.

China’s CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and cement, million tonnes of CO2, rolling 12-month totals until September 2025. Source: Emissions are estimated from National Bureau of Statistics data on production of different fuels and cement, China Customs data on imports and exports and WIND Information data on changes in inventories, applying emissions factors from China’s latest national greenhouse gas emissions inventory and annual emissions factors per tonne of cement production until 2024. Sector breakdown of coal consumption is estimated using coal consumption data from WIND Information and electricity data from the National Energy Administration. The consumption of petrol, diesel and jet fuel is adjusted to match quarterly totals estimated by Sinopec.
