I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

We need housing. Most of it has to be financed by wealthy firms and funds. We can wish that weren't so, but to prevent the financing is to prevent housing.

But I was told that the City doesn't plan for infrastructure needs.

Tell Planning Commission to Get Started Planning Commission will consider a resolution to start implementing the Comprehensive Plan with zoning changes. As a first step, it calls for the commission to immediately start creating 1-2 new zoning districts for the Hub category and the Transition areas that surround Hub. The resolution asks staff to model the zoning changes on proposals made by members of the More Neighbors policy committee. This resolution is important for two reasons: Speed. It would direct planning staff to immediately begin implementing the comprehensive plan with broad reforms, rather than rezone a few small areas at a time at a slow pace. Quality of Reforms. By directing staff to model the reforms on the More Neighbors proposals, the resolution helps ensure that the new zoning districts will remove barriers to housing construction rather than add new ones.

Chart: Rental vacancy rate versus point in time count per capita. Point in time count is the count of unhoused people on one single night each year. PIT per capita means rate of homelessness per 1,000 people. There are two charts, one for cities and one for counties. Both show a negative correlation. For cities, the R^2 value is 0.27. for counties, the R^2 value is 0.28.
