Last week's tornado knocked down more trees than the next 25 years of development in current R1-R2 zones could. Maybe the storm sucked the air out of his campaign.

Mmm, lead paint chips
The MILF Mall at Washtenaw and Platt is hollowing out our historic downtown! It even has its own Zola!
I think the objection is that private companies will profit while the public sector co-invests. They would prefer no development to a development that has any profits.
This would put an extremely low ceiling on # of homes built, dooming us to ever increasing rents for a long time. #A2Council
Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train. "If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."
I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

We need housing. Most of it has to be financed by wealthy firms and funds. We can wish that weren't so, but to prevent the financing is to prevent housing.
But I was told that the City doesn't plan for infrastructure needs.
This is how I took it, too.
I just wrote a letter asking Planning Commission to implement rezoning with the urgency that our housing shortage deserves. It took less than a minute. Write yours here: actionnetwork.org/letters/2026...

Chart: Rental vacancy rate versus point in time count per capita. Point in time count is the count of unhoused people on one single night each year. PIT per capita means rate of homelessness per 1,000 people. There are two charts, one for cities and one for counties. Both show a negative correlation. For cities, the R^2 value is 0.27. for counties, the R^2 value is 0.28.
Alt test explains the chart below. From the book: Homelessness Is a Housing Problem by Gregg Colburn, Clayton Aldern. www.ucpress.edu/books/homele...
