The cover of the graphic novel Crossplay, about fandom and feelings and a whole lot of 18+ fun
Reread Crossplay for the first time in years (for REASONS??) and I'm pretty dang proud of 9-years-ago Niki! It's hot and cute and I drew some pretty good hands, if I do say so myself.
I hope he lives on, somewhere... appreciated as he deserves...

I wanted to go to the wolpertinger museum today and it's CLOSED? it's closed forever and I don't get to see this furby-ass-wolp? Not even once?
more seriously, this is Midsummer Sisters's fourth starred review and it has me feeling pretty emotional and incredibly grateful

A Statement In Opposition to HR 7661 The freedom to speak and to read is a fundamental principle of the United States of America. That is why we have joined together — parents, students, educators, library workers, authors, free expression advocates, booksellers, and publishers — to stand in support of our nation’s school-aged children and teens and in opposition to H.R. 7661. H.R. 7661, if passed, will compel nationwide book censorship. It confuses obscenity with identity and stigmatizes vulnerable young people, particularly trans children and teens, based on who they are. It will continue to drain funding from our already underfunded schools and libraries. And it will threaten the creativity and critical thinking that are vital to education in the U.S.
Authors Against Book Bans has joined dozens of other organizations, nonprofits, publishers, & stores to issue this joint statement opposing HR7661

My favourite review of Ride On was a one line review: "Not enough horses." Whoever wrote that, I feel you. True Horse Kid energy. Every single panel must have a horse in it, otherwise it is Not Enough Horses.
An AI dares to dream that she is human. You’ve been hired to put her in her place.

Called my rep and said "I am concerned about the President's posts about committing genocide and would like my reps to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office" and the guy was like "okay I'll pass that along, is there anything else" and I was like no that's pretty much it

Reading some Moomins in the sunshine and it's very cool to see where she realized panel borders don't have to be ruler lines (also, charming and gay)
I have my adult stuff grouped together and just say "and this is the sexy corner!" It gets an immediate laugh and people scurry to one side or the other and scoop something up to leaf through. Some friends have preview copies censored with funny stickers, which also always gets a gleeful laugh.

A pull quote from the School Library Journal starred review of the graphic novel MIDSUMMER SISTERS by Niki Smith. "Smith has carved out a niche in graphic novels for tweens and teens with each heartfelt story. A must purchase."

a digital illustration in the style of a relief print depicting a black cat in a defensive pose holding a torn and tattered transgender pride flag in its mouth as it looks directly towards the viewer. the background is purple with some specks of blue and pink showing through, and behind the cat is a black midground resembling grass or flames. the top right corner features a box with a caption reading "T.D.O.V."

The following are all panels of a comic. We begin with the words: When I was young, I would sometimes daydream that a woman would appear from the future... (The image contains only text.)
...and tell me that she was me. (An adult woman's hand reaches down towards the hand of a young person.)
"In the future," she would tell me, "There is amazing medicine and surgery that can change your body." (The woman is now shown stepping through an arched open doorway and holding the young person's hand in a gesture of comfort.)
She would do a turn, her dress flowing, her hair long and beautiful. Then I'd force myself back to reality and tell myself: "Those drugs don't exist, that's not possible. It's all fantasy. Forget this." (The daydream over, the young person sits at a desk, sadly resting their head in their hand.)
As I learn more about myself, memories come into focus that make a lot more sense given what I know now. I've collected them into a story called Before I Knew It. (1/6)
