Something I miss baking. It’s a Basque Cheesecake— but worth the temporary stomach ache!!
Best with a little fruit, not too sweet, surprisingly.
Happy belated birthday! To many more 😄
Oh my! Those scones, the dogs… wait, which ones am I supposed to eat?
Somehow they’re both so cute!! 😝
A new college journalism curriculum module created by EFF & @freedom.press in collaboration with The University of Texas at El Paso’s Multimedia Journalism Program & Borderzine teaches students how to protect themselves & their digital devices when working near & across the U.S.-Mexico border.
i mean, octopi are known to have sentience. We eat them just as much as we love them as possible exotic pets, if you want them to be.
They don’t typically eat dogs and cats, slowpoke have tails that “fall off”.
I would be hard pressed to not find these counterparts in real life in some capacity.
“We live in a country without a comprehensive federal privacy law, so your personal data has been freely harvested and sold for a long time,” EFF’s Lena Cohen told @wavynews10.bsky.social.
Agh!
So sorry I’ve been out. Plenty of life has happened, to include the AC dying out just before the Florida heat! Living in 80F/26C humidity isn’t easy!
Summer is among us— anyone doing anything fun? Personally, cooking and journaling is some of the few things I’m trying! It really helps!

Got a password-locking touchscreen phone? You may be using Apple’s patent to enter in your password every time.
Strangely, the only one who upkeeps this patent is the US— though 8 different countries total have retained it in 2006.

(1) IN GENERAL.—Except as provided in para6 graph (2), no State or political subdivision thereof 7 may enforce any law or regulation regulating artifi8 cial intelligence models, artificial intelligence sys9 tems, or automated decision systems during the 10- 10 year period beginning on the date of the enactment 11 of this Act.
This is insane. Republicans have inserted language into the budget reconciliation bill that would ban states from regulating AI in any capacity for 10 years.

It may well have got the head fired, but the US copyright office's (pre-publication) report on AI and fair use is extremely helpful in explaining the key issues for a non- lawyer like me:

“Copyright isn’t political, it’s merely the protection of IP rights for companies.”
yeah right.
This patent’s diagrams is hilarious. I don’t know why? Whoever did these really liked to draw.
Regardless, yes, this is somehow still about DRM.

Lock and load! For your Nokias in 2005: DOOM RPG! A turn-based iteration of the classic FPS with more of an emphasis on story and dialogue.
Ever wonder how far DRM software has come and how it’s implemented?
Some of you may know Denuvo if you play a few video games, which is one of many DRMs- but patents go back to the mid 90s, in cable boxes!
DRM at this time was more known for music, though.

Howdy! I followed you recently because of a *certain* starter pack, I can’t say I can go to many places where most of whom I followed are at, though…
I’m all the way in Florida, I wish I knew of the events here where y’all network. 😅
Playing around with this INCREDIBLE resource for introducing non-experts to how neural networks, AI, LLMs actually work.
dang, I got all excited for a conference we could talk about what our study is and why we think it’s cool, but it’s just for archaeology students.
…all I got is “dinosaur”computers and case files.
Ah well, I hope there’s a lot of red-figure pottery, thank you for reposting this anyway! 😅
This is Marley. He does not simply eat his hamburgers. He inhales them. 13/10
Ever wonder how Capcom is staying afloat? Well, there’s patents like these that make you realize how.
It also made me see that “blockchain” is just yet another buzzword to put fear in people, it’s not *just* cryptocurrency related. #capcom #patents #videogames

Lottie the cat, the most wonderful cat to ever exist, lounging in her basket. Her face in a Chuck Jones grin at stuffing her whole self into a cramped donut. Legs are everywhere, and not in said basket.
Doesn't fit. Doesn't care. Leg.
Their Cookie Dough one is my favorite… when I can find it 😅
Anyone should know GitHub if they are working on anything tech related.
Here’s an interesting intellectual property patent some of you may remember— Ford showing ads and listening to you while you drive? More likely than you think.
Possibly bordering a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Available in US, Chinese, and German. #patents #auto

Fluffy gray tabby walking toward the camera on a sunny kitchen floor, his ears suggesting that he has some questions about the kitty carrier that has appeared in my office. (He’s going in for a little quick bloodwork ahead of his dental work on Friday.)
The Morning Monty suspects that Something Is Up.
a golden long-haired dachshund sits on white floors and looks up with large dark eyes. from this angle her head eclipses most of her body. she has an innocent pleading in her expression.
This is Boksil. She wanted to let you to know that she is free to hang out right now if you are. In case you were wondering. 12/10

But hopefully, Win.Rar will always be eternal and remain the best free trial extractor to compile all these files.
(.7z is okay but still you gotta pay for it blegh)
Because in the end, digital preservation truly dies when computers can no longer compile the data. Backups are the key, not so much the prestige of the file we use.
The problem then is access to that data, and its location if that should become lost.
At this moment, I don’t think there is an immediate solution, as everything depreciates. The best we can do is “mummify” the data that we have every year in physical media, minimize its environmental conditions, and hope it survives long beyond us.
