Just FYI, if ICANN is implicated in the TikTok ban, then the service is truly dead. ICANN is in charge of all domain TLDs. They decide which one exists and who manages them. If TikTok could just purchase a non-American domain, that would be enabling the distribution of TikTok.
Food for thought.

It's worth noting that this is part of why the right has done so well overtaking this country. The Republicans have done a great job crafting this image of being an incredibly inclusive party, whereas Democrats have crafted the exact opposite image for themselves.
The Dems blew it.
House of Representatives partisan makeup map. It’s 208-218 Democrats-Republicans.
Republicans have officially won control of the House of Representatives. Now the only limit to the Republican’s powers is the Filibuster, should it continue to exist.
A cooked turkey lying on a platter with vegetables. The turkey is holding a lit match! The text reads: Is your turkey a saboteur? Unattended cooking is the number one cause of home fires. On average, there are more home fires on Thanksgiving Day than any other day of the year. Always stand by your pan!
Thanksgiving is coming.
This is the agency that enforces the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. If he really does go through with this, I’ll be watching to see who gets this responsibility.
This is the agency that enforces the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. If he really does go through with this, I’ll be watching to see who gets this responsibility, if anyone.
This is a big reason Green Party voters voted the way they did, by the way. Jill Stein actually spoke out for Palestinians.
It has to be pointed out that the reason Harris lost this election so decisively is because nobody actually voted for her as the nominee to begin with. She wasn’t even on the ballot.
Anyone who recognized the importance of this wasn’t surprised by the Trump victory.
Senate election chart. Republicans are in control.
The Senate party makeup is now officially known. 47-53 Democrat-Republican.
With this slim majority, should the filibuster remain in place, Republican power will be strong, but not absolute. Only time will tell if this situation will change.
The non-profit I work with has two funds: One for Admin, and one for Activity. All outside donations go to Activity; all Admin costs are paid by our members. For a setup like this, a sudden change like this would absolutely shut us down.
This likely won't affect us, but do we want to find out?
Absolutely! In addition, many of the services a non-profit relies on depend on their non-profit status. For example, if you have a local organization with 30 members that utilize Google Workspace, revoking their status can make what was a free service suddenly cost at least $180/month!
For a non-profit, especially a small one, taxes can absolutely make the difference between being able to do service or not. If one person has unilateral powers to designate them as a terrorist group without needing evidence, and with limited checks, that's an existential danger.
It's also worth noting that while the description is largely true, this does allow such a designation to be disputed with the IRS Independent Office of Appeals, and gives jurisdiction to District Courts for judicial review. But most of the power is granted to the Secretary of the Treasury.
This is Section 4 of H.R.9495, and appears to have been inserted as a poison pill. Section 2 postpones tax filing deadlines for those who are wrongfully detained abroad, and Section 3 allows for refunds of penalties paid by those as well.
I'm fairly certain the operative issue being pointed out here is "No reason nor evidence required".

Election map showing partisan control of House. Democrats have 189 and Republicans have 204 at this time. Dems need 29 more seats for the majority, GOP needs 14. Out of the leaning seats not yet called, Democrats have to flip 5 of them to win.
I’m calling it now — The Republicans have taken the House. Our government has a Republican trifecta.
Not really necessary, it was always ceremonial by design. The job of the VP is just to count the electoral votes, not question their validity.
The only reason such a process exists at all is because of the civil war. Many states had two governments, and there wasn’t a way to deal with that.
“It’ll be okay, we survived it before” is a good tagline for a horror movie sequel
It has to be noted that even if I’m correct that this term will be basically the same as his previous one, that’s still a lot of damage we’ll have to endure. He already committed crimes.
Have fun, America. You chose this.
America chose the criminal…
I know it hasn't been called yet, but I'm saying it now: Donald Trump has won this election. Four more years of that chaos.
I'm going to bed. I'm expecting to wake up to a similar result in the House. We're getting a Republican trifecta.
Election map showing partisan control of Senate. Democrats have 42 and Republicans have 51 at this time.
The Republicans have secured the Senate.

The biggest issue identified with the system has been that there just aren't enough immigration judges. Hire more judges and open more courts, and we really could handle the backlog of cases.
The Republican proposal (HR2) does not do this. The bill Harris promises to revive (S4361) does.
It's worth noting that this distinction can also be seen in legislation. This podcast episode is a great overview of how Democrats and Republicans in Congress really differ in how they want to solve the border issue by looking at the legislation they passed.
