I wish there was a Twitter style social media that isn’t just bullying from (fill-in-the-blank) perspective.

A lot of people epically failed to accept the basic reality that the 2024 election was an election with huge moral stakes and a clear right and wrong answer (for a wide range of reasons). They now are twisting themselves into knots to protect themselves from accepting that moral failing.

Maybe it’s because every Dem says Dems suck every time republicans do anything

“If someone says a harmless opinion the wrong way they deserve to be mocked” is just making excuses to be a jerk because it’s fun to be mean

I mean very obviously Hegseth should resign, and if it were a Democratic administration this would be quickly be a consensus position.

Honestly 400 a month for 6 years for a corolla isn’t even half as bad as the deals some people get. I’m talking cars that die in a year and a loan at 13%

1 year ago 4 0 2 0

Used car loans start around 8 percent with good credit and go up to 25 percent. There’s people who take out a 12% loan financing 15k on a ten year old bmw not knowing anything about cars because they can afford the monthly payment and it breaks down in a couple month and costs 5k to fix.

I’ve now watched this clip like 10 times and it’s instant first ballot hall of fame. One of the most comically out of touch things I’ve ever heard heard from a public official.

In the past 24 hours, the Trump regime has:

- Threatened to shutdown the Social Security Administration unless they give DOGE's everyone's social security information

- Threatened to arrest American citizens for protesting Musk and Tesla and deport them to a foreign country without due process

I mean between NYC metro, LA metro, Bay Area, Seattle, DC, Boston, Austin, Hawaii, San Diego, your already at 65 million which is a fifth. Then there’s knock on effects - Idaho and Montana are not HCOL but being priced out by Californians is maybe the biggest local issue as their housing rises.

That’s like saying “egg prices go up because people have money and are willing to spend it on eggs.” It’s technically true, that’s how supply and demand affect prices. But the shortage is what causes the prices which reveals people’s willingness. And “willingness” isn’t really a fair description

Lots of rust belt towns full of housing and no jobs is also a contributor to the housing crisis, but fundamentally if it wasn’t for NIMBYs it would not be nearly as big a contributor

One percent of 350 million is 3.5 million new people, and we’ve had more than that in the last four years. Housing deteriorates too, and jobs gains and losses are not spread evenly

Hakeem Jeffries and house Dems notably are not. Dem voters are very upset at leadership. All these people are Dems and lose credibility when you attack Dems as a whole for the actions of a few.

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

Then attack them for it without attacking Dems as a whole. Why is that so hard?

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

If your mad at Schumer and the other 9 senators I don’t think it’s helpful to attack Dems as a whole. It’s like poking a whole in the ship your on because the captain sucks

I just put in conditional notice at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates. I sent that notice firm-wide and anticipate the email will leak. I would rather just share it with you myself.

Once, when I was in fifth grade, I failed a test and came home sobbing. My mom was disappointed in me but couldn’t figure out why I was so upset until I choked out, “now I won’t get into Harvard!!” I was a gunner, even then.

I’ve spent thirty years working to get into these spaces. I do not give them up lightly, and I have made plenty of moral compromises before. But this moment is existential; whether we get better from an already unacceptable status quo or get worse hinges on how we handle it. If being on this career path demands I accept that my industry—because this is certainly not unique to Skadden—will allow an authoritarian government to ignore the courts, I refuse to take it any further. As I have said before, others stand to lose far, far more than a paycheck.

I’m going to go cry and watch the new White Lotus, but rest assured I will be back tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. Thank you.

Have they actually changed though? Here’s Eunisses opposing 100% affordable housing 3 months ago.

Look I was supportive of the DSA council people and I think Raman is great, but it does seem to me like the other two got into office and did little different

I mean I think Eunisses is ideologically opposed, and she blocked affordable housing in her own district. Hugo didn’t even vote for the amendment you mentioned.

Not saying their perfect but I think they’ve done decent considering the situation

The ADU bill made something like 30 or 40 thousand housing units. The others have varied in success. That said, passing bills and creating some housing is very tough for any yimby group, there are a lot of structural forces against it in every city and arguably more in certain CA cities.

Raman is good but your cherry picking as to the others. They have voted against housing far far more times than they e voted for. This vote in particular was expected to fail too

? CA Yimby has some actual policy accomplishments, more than yimbys in most big liberal cities have.

1 year ago 2 0 1 0

Do you think yimbys in CA don’t try to appeal to the left? The first I heard about yimbyism and zoning was in relation to redlining from a lefty

in LA there are three recently elected DSA councilman who are strident NIMBYs.
