WE DID IT EVERYONE!
We made it to the darkest night!
Shroud yourself well and hold the darkness in your soul for when you need it.
Welcome in the light when you can, but slowly, slowly.

It's a very difficult week to be a parent. :-(
Thank you. I am supporting a NB child. The only innocence being taken from them is the idea of bodily autonomy and personal choice.

It may look like decay. But instead it's a new form of growth. A transformation.

And, ok, four more! π±πΈ
And here's four more...
π±πΈ
Just how many blackberry flowers do you really need to look at? π±πΈ
Well, here's four...
I'm a backyard gardener/homesteader. I'm trying to supplement our food but I know I'll never replace our full supply. I'm also trying to bring joy, deliciousness, and surprise to our food. Spring is very good for that! ππ±
I was gone for THREE DAYS and the garden is newly filled with flowers and fruits and flowers that will become fruits. π±
Prairie phlox! Paw paw flowers! Oranges in bloom! Fava beans!
(yes I'm just listing π± things)
My close-up photos are always hiding a...less beautiful context. There's tons of weeds and failed beds and dying plants. But sometimes I have the energy to do something. π±π
1) My lettuces and Ethiopian kale.
2) The actual bed they're in, surrounded by weeds.
3) I weeded!
4) The chickens helped!
Fava beans are doing great, flowering like mad and lots of bean pods popping up. Louisiana Sweet Orange is in bloom. Strawberries are loving life. Spring is well underway! πππ±
Likely a juvenile milkweed assassin bug. Louisiana.
An ode to beneficial insects:
Never shall I spray you
With poisons or cruel toxins
You're part of this garden
And I need you where you are

I...might be playing a version of the main character of Cazilor in our current Gloomhaven run. The rampant optimism is crushing the souls of their teammates.
Today I made strawberry ice cream from ingredients almost entirely sourced from the surrounding 15 miles. And with such an emphasis on local, I didn't even want to waste the strawberry tops. Luckily I had some friends on hand to eat them! π±ππ¦π
It should be a good year!
Not bothering! It's a large clump of blueberry flowers, some open and some still developing.
Beautiful spring flowers. π±πΈπ·
I think there's definitely a horse in there for some people, but not everyone.
My horses are more apparent in something like Mendelssohn's "Fingal's Cave."
Now I'm really curious what the piece was!
These girls are doing the hard work right now. The puppy, on the other hand, is eating all of my asparagus. π±ππΆ
A few photos from around the yard, including one particularly nasty (and impressive) weed. π±ππ
Our Black Australorps have been laying (relatively) huge eggs compared to the Speckled Sussexes. In theory both should be making "medium" eggs but apparently Biggs and Wedge didn't get the memo! ππ±π₯
Native plant gardening (in the US at least) can be really hard. Not everyone sees the beauty in it and of course the blooms are very seasonal. But I can see how lovely it's all going to be.
Native blueberries, slender mountain mint, prairie phlox, and a grasshopper friend I found while weeding. π±
Here come the flowers! Lots of buds.
- Fava beans up close
- Blueberries
- Pomegranate
- Native Coral Honeysuckle
Louisiana! It's great in spring but the summers have been brutally hot recently.
