While we're all distracted by the head-to-head between frontier models, with Opus, GPT and Gemini overtaking each other every week, perhaps in the back ranks a truly remarkable comeback is unfolding.
It sems that the Chinese model GLM-5.1 (Zhipu AI) has essentially caught up with the pack.

While most of us are enjoying a well-deserved summer break, it's also a great time to invest in your professional growth.
I've passed the CompTIA Security+ exam and am officially certified!
It was a great opportunity to refresh my knowledge of essential cybersecurity concepts and best practices.
Thrilled to share that I've been selected as an AWS Community Builder for the 3rd year!
It's incredibly rewarding to see even my small contributions recognized, and to continue learning and growing within this great global community of awesome people.
Grateful to be part of it again.

MEME: One does not simply pass a test - without studying
I realized that my AWS Solutions Architect Associate exam voucher was going to expire in just 48 hours! 😱
In a bold move, definitely not in my style, I decided to take the exam without *any* preparation.
To my surprise, I passed, albeit by a very narrow margin, but hey, a pass is a pass, right? 🥳

I published a new blog post diving into OpenSearch metrics and how to analyze them effectively.
To make it more fun, I’ve included a little challenge:
Can you spot the issue by looking at the metric graphs? 🤔
Test your skills, and let me know what do you think of this approach.🙂
Wow.
The fascinating thing, and a little bit creepy too, is that just 3-4 years ago this would have been considered pure sci-fi by anyone.
And here we are!
The rather long journey for re:Invent 2024 in Las Vegas is about to begin 🤟
An interesting difference to notice is that in my company is true the opposite: it's the markdown stored in a git repo that is accessible just from a subset of the organization, and some less-technical people could be penalized from this approach.
Which strategy did you use for storing ADRs?
I'm still trying to understand pros and cons of git and wiki (or any other). I don't have a strong opinion and I can't find anything 100% satisfying.
Focus on the good point: beverages are 100% ok! 😀
Happy to share that next Tuesday I will give a technical talk about the challenges of managing large volumes of real-time data on AWS
Do you know how Apache Iceberg works?
I wrote an article with a short introduction and some lessons learned using Apache Iceberg on AWS.
dev.to/aws-builders...
Exactly the same for me.
I think that when this happens it’s just the lack of a hook in our brain, or maybe too many confusing hooks. My English is far from being good, but for example reading your post I immediately picked up “the maze runner” movie, and “the curse of monkey island” videogame.
Absolutely wise observation Guille 👍🏼
So wide that you made me remember nothing less than a quote from Einstein: “If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to ask”
I am having for the first time a week of vacation, in November, in a warm place. Just a question I can’t find an answer to: why the hell is it the first time?!
