Agreed. I have a robot with ambulatory issues in my first book. Got a great go out of that. He/It wasn’t able to navigate tricky terrain.

I think the point is more than government are investing in ramming it down our throats. Previously it would have been supports for businesses to explore a technology. Eg I don’t recall any campaigns to get the general public using eg WAP (the failed technology I always hark back to) in the 2000s.

I try to put things on the belt in weight order too but sometimes I put “buffer” items in to slow down the scan to give me a chance to pack. E.g. I might make a little pile of random things between single items. It’s a game of chess.

Myself and @thejoegriffin.bsky.social have an amazingly efficient system in place for this. I do the ‘cool bag’, where I Tetris everything into place, and he puts everything else into bags at the till. One time a cashier clocked our method and scanned things into 2 separate piles for us to pack!

My tutting and eye rolling and muttering “‘Sake!” under my breath doesn’t work anyway.
