Apparently, at today’s No Kings protest in Las Vegas, several tourists chose to join in.This is very interesting. Not only it says a great deal about how people are feeling in this historical moment, but it reminds us of how temporary visitors can become part of local narratives. #sociologyoftourism

“The SLF, which represents independent bookstores all over France, announced plans to boycott the fest based on Amazon’s announced participation earlier this year. Citing the evil empire’s many negative effects on the publishing industry.”

📻🎙️I was interviewed by KNPR on the community impacts of Formula 1 in Las Vegas. This is a complex sociological case study I have been following since the very beginning. In the interview, I highlighted the importance of balanced strategies that center around the community’s needs. shorturl.at/sCOsu
A few weeks ago, I shared with the students of my “International Tourism” course this interesting, but worrisome, article. Key West in Florida has been studying how cruise ships docking affect the quality of water: it stirs up as much as sediment as a hurricane.

I was interviewed by the BBC on how Washington’s decisions are affecting travel to the US. I focused on aspects such as the fact that, for the US, tourism is a vital market, and a decline in travel could significantly harm the economy. www.bbc.com/travel/artic...
Marta (my wife) was interviewed by Financial Times on tourism under Trump:
“Travelers are already in a stressful situation and they don’t want anything to make that journey tougher. People are seriously questioning whether they should travel to the US, and that’s a huge concern for the industry.”

What a great research trip to Arizona for the UNLV Tribal Education Initiative! It was an honor to learn about the the Pascua Yaqui Tribe directly from the people who are working hard to preserve such a rich history. A special thank you to the Casino del Sol’s staff for their amazing hospitality!
I was Interviewed by Next Avenue on quiet travel. I said that people try to escape noise pollution and take a break from the demands on their attention. But, as growing numbers of tourists crowd peaceful destinations,do they lose their quiet character? #overtourism www.nextavenue.org/7-destinatio...

I explained that there is a delicate balance to strike.Increased visitations can harm natural resources and create safety issues. lasvegasweekly.com/news/2025/ma...
🤯 www.rfi.fr/en/environme...
These people don’t care about working class Americans. They just use the culture war to make you think they do.
“The stop-work order on U.S.A.I.D.-funded research has left thousands of people with experimental drugs and devices in their bodies, with no access to monitoring or care.”

The situation could pose a fundamental test of America’s rule of law. If the administration fails to comply with the emergency order, it is unclear how it might be enforced. The Constitution says that a president “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed”
