Our office's first "Particularly Dangerous Situation" RFW was issued today, unfortunately.
Goal here isn't fear, but widespread awareness and preparedness. Wildfire risk management requires a collective approach across all facets of society. Without it, these types of days are much more dangerous.

Into the void (WFO parking lot) I go... ⬛️😂
And the way it's looking, it may be like this for a few more days 😬
Alrighty, ready to see something really cool? (and maybe a little nauseating)
The evolution of Hurricane Melissa's mesovortices at peak strength.

Including *two* positions in Boulder!
Challenging forecasts, a plethora of collaboration opportunities with collocated atmospheric science groups, and the mountains at your doorstep are just some of the draws.

Even under lighter winds, this fire moves. Live fuel moistures below 40%, fire behavior in oakbrush almost indistinguishable from pinyon-juniper. Extreme drought conditions are evident.
May be done with Red Flag days for a while, but the #LeeFire will continue to run. It's no ordinary season. #COwx
Today's environment had the ingredients for deep pyroCb formation from the get-go. The final factor (clearing cloud cover) arrived late afternoon, and boom.
Needless to say, significant expansion to evac zones southward along CR 5/Hwy 13 corridors for the Lee Fire today. #COwx #LeeFire
Lee Fire as seen from Meeker - 3 PM MDT, Aug 8.
Tragic accident on the Million Dollar Highway derailed today's arrival in Meeker.
Detoured via Telluride, and captured some images of the Stoner Mesa fire which punched some pyroCu.
Hectic day of travel and weather support for 4 separate incidents.
Webcam view of the Lee/Grease fires southwest of Meeker from the Meeker airport.
En route to Meeker to support the emerging fires (Elk RBX, Lee, and Grease - the latter two of which have merged).
They've grown to ~16,000 acres in 2 days. Unfortunately, extreme drought and prolonged critical fire weather conditions through at least Friday will make for a very tough week ahead.

Every single Irish person I spoke to this morning after 2 1/2 minutes of filtered sun: "Isn't it a beautiful day?"
The day:
So great to see the support today, thanks Boulder! 💙
I'm so sorry Cole 😔
We're pretty bummed about it, these are always good fun to teach.
Bueno, ¿basta ya de justificaciones, no?
¿Soltó o no esos comentarios? Pues ya está. Los ciudadanos tienen todo el derecho del mundo de escrutinar, y más cuando se trata de racismo sin cortinas.

Two options:
1. No reply (resignations must be voluntary, so request has zero legal basis).
2. List your week's work. Request 1 hr OT to complete required duty. Include said duty and expense to taxpayers in your reply to the king's butler.
