I got a copy of Michael DeForge’s DRESSING (Koyama, 2015) today, which I adored. One of my favorite of his collections — it’s DeForge at his most formally playful, yet you never get a sense that he has anything but the utmost confidence. Honestly perplexed by how good a cartoonist he’s always been.
If you're new to Off Panel, this week's episode with @pornsak.bsky.social is a great example of what the show's all about. It's about Absolute Green Arrow on the surface, but it's really about Pornsak entering a new phase in his career and everything that comes with it. It's a good one. Listen up!
Exactly! Great stuff.
Like, you could have the same kind of in-universe text in a prose novel, but the design of it can only hint at mimesis, while in a comic, you and the designer can create not just what it says but what it looks and feels like. I think it's a fantastic tool that is used less than it should be.
I was writing the backmatter for In Your Skin #2 today (a fake in-universe profile of one of our protagonists) when a friend came over for coffee and we chatted about the delight of in-universe documents in comics. Unlike in prose, there's a visual component, which tips them over the edge for me.
Been seeing The Saint of Bright Doors by @vajra.me all over and finally picked it up and having mild bouts of disassociation about how good it is.
IN YOUR SKIN #1 is out WEDNESDAY from @imagecomics.com. Listen to us talk about the book with @adityab.net & Som on this week's CXF Interview Podcast:

Just wrapped up the final script for IN YOUR SKIN. I don't know quite how to feel, but this is the first longform story – the first *book* – I have finished. There's a lot of work left – editing, responding to the art, writing backmatter etc., and of course the lettering – but this part is *done*.
Read Everything Dead & Dying.
An incredibly original approach to the post apocalyptic zombie genre through a queer lens, loaded with metaphor.
@tatebrombal.bsky.social is fast becoming one of those writers who's name makes a book a must buy. Great art/colours from Jacob Phillips & Pip Martin too.

If you want to read cool writing about comics, you might dig SKTCHD BOOK 2025, my new print annual that features my favorite articles I wrote this past year on my Eisner-nominated comic site, bonus content, a foreword by @kierongillen.bsky.social, and more!
Orders close on 4/30!
Had a fantastic time chatting with James – this one digs into the story mechanics and character work and the philosophical underpinnings in a bit more depth, hopefully without spoiling the first issue (too much).
NEW TCXFIP: We talk with @adityab.net & Som about their new @imagecomics.com series In Your Skin!
Holy crap. A bundle featuring the curatorial genius of the world’s finest editor of horror and dark fantasy? Run, don’t walk!
Today is FOC for our book. Watch the trailer and if you are intrigued let your local comic shop know you want a copy.
CRUCIAL. Rough lettering must always be part of the art from the jump. It saves so much time.
I actually have two poems in HOMOSEXUAL INTIFADA! really lovely collection and very happy to be part of it

Matt Walsh @MattWalshBlog A weird thing is that whenever I post criticism of Al, the majority of the people agreeing with me seem to be leftists. It's pretty much the only position I hold that seems to be more popular with the left than the right. It should be the opposite. My whole point about Al (especially Al in creative fields) is that it isn't human, it doesn't have a soul, and we cannot surrender our society to an unhuman soulless algorithm even if it makes our lives easier in some ways. It's very strange that an argument predicated on the existence of the soul resonates with the left while conservatives tend to scoff at it. 3:02 PM • Mar 12, 2026 • 748.5K Views
