To ‘weed out non-believers’, Gangotri temple will make panchgavya consumption a must While the Gangotri Mandir Samiti has, for the first time, mandated consumption of panchgavya—a mixture of cow urine, dung, ghee, milk and curd—for entry, Yamunotri will remain open to all.

Losing a parent is something like driving through a plate-glass window Saul Bellow writes to Martin Amis

Also:

[L]osing a parent is something like driving through a plate-glass window. You didn’t know it was there until it shattered, and then for years to come you’re picking up the pieces.
~ Saul Bellow, in a letter to Martin Amis.

My friend just died. I don't know what to do.

This comment from a Reddit discussion says it well. www.reddit.com/r/Assistance...

Happened to my best friend, a chronically early-to-everything person who is constantly exasperated with chrono-optimistic me, particularly when we have travelled together. I have never let her forget it.

I’ve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so you’re right. So what? Don’t ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

If you’re looking for someone to hold accountable, look at those with real power not at someone who tried to be a voice for us when the world chose silence.
We don’t need more blame we need to stay alive.

HiPOD: Intersecting Channels near Olympica Fossae

This region is covered in vast lava flows. The collapse pits here may be collapsed lava tubes or where overlying rock “drained” into voids created by extensional faulting.

It's very strange. Here's what happened.

1.) A Palestinian guy called Mahmoud From Gaza was using code scripts to mass post his fundraiser, because he is a software engineer.

2.) He bought some old accounts from a site for a dollar or two.

3.) Liberals and Zionists caught wind of this.

If we dont fund the IDF, then Israel will go on a killing spree against their neighbors, launch pogroms across the West Bank, commit genocide in Gaza, occupy chunks of Syria and Lebanon, bomb Qatar, and finally launch The Big One against Iran. By funding them, we have prevented this nightmare.

I love this illustration so much.

After a bit of googling (I could have saved myself the trouble if I read the comments): The artist is William Heath Robinson. Published in 1897 to illustrate "The Cunning Crane and the Crab," in the book "The Giant Crab and Other Tales from Old India."

The Blaft Book of Anti-Caste SF ebook cover with Drummer Boy

Delisted all our ebooks from #Draft2Digital out of solidarity, after they imposed the much-maligned maintainance fee on small self-publisher accounts.

You can buy our ebooks on our website. It works out better for us and for our authors anyway.

In the course of my working years, which started in the late 80s, India went from a country where you could wait years to get allotted a landline to over a billion sim cards in circulation.

Sorry, I got on my soapbox and stayed there too long. I will stop now.
