Data is not transparent! And that's why looking without bias is hard to do. We asked undergrads what correlation they expected between wealth & happiness, before showing them a fictitious dataset. Faced with an identical graph, those expecting a positive correlation were much more likely to see one!

OMG! I would have died to have these toys during my PhD ❤️ Nowadays I feel that my students are not spending enough time to get nice images from their experiments #newPI 🤷♀️
9pm Switzerland time, y'all! I'll be talking about how neurons are like onions. Tiny onions.
Sort of. Look, you'll have to be there 🧪🧅🐟
Excited to share our new paper online ahead of print in Genes & Development @genesdev.bsky.social. We show how HNF1A affects GLI3 processing and drives #pancreatic and #intestinal
development.
It’s been amazing to see it come together thanks to the team @cheralab.bsky.social.

New Perspective form Rory Maizels & me: "Gene regulatory networks: from correlative models to causal explanations"
Gene regulatory networks are supposed to give us mechanistic explanations of development, so why are we drowning in 'hairballs' of statistical correlations?

John Gurdon taught us that the beginning of life is never truly lost — only waiting to be reawakened. Long before his ideas were accepted, he showed that a cell remembers more than it appears to know: that within a differentiated nucleus lies the latent capacity to begin anew go.nature.com/3Mf8SD0
