If Kurds are blocked from entering their homes in the Kirkuk province the census data will falsely show that the residents in Kirkuk (such as Palkana village) are ethnic Arabs and this will be used to further marginalise the Kurds in Kirkuk and Iraq will push for further arabisation policies.

Tomorrow a 2 day curfew will be imposed across Iraq and over 120.000 field researchers will go door to door to collect data on the citizens living there.
This is the first census in Iraq in roughly 30 years.

The Kirkuk region and in particular some villages such as Palkana village are regularly being claimed by Iraqi (Arab) settlers.
The settlers are claiming that villages such as Palkana village rightfully belong to them citing ownership-papers that were issued to them by the Iraqi Ba’ath regime

The census is feared by some to be used to further marginalise ethnic minorities in Iraq and indeed as Kurds are being blocked from entering their homes in Kirkuk to prevent them from participating in the census data collection, this fear holds true.
