I didn't like art history class when I took it, but man do I still use the stuff I learned in that class when talking about art.
From referencing certain periods of time, to certain movements and styles, to histories and contexts of metaphors, it comes in handy when discussing art fairly regularly!

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses
One bit that stuck with me, and made me reconsider a lot of things I took for granted, was the simple discussion of "it took about 150 years for people to figure out what a vanishing point was and how they worked"
It's funny to think about now, but I just never thought about until then.
This is impossible. If there's anything I've learned on the internet, it's that once you have an opinion, that opinion must stay forever unchanged no matter what the context of that opinion was or how much time has passed.
It was a real "eat your vegetables" kind of class for me, just like figure drawing or observational drawing, that I only appreciated after I'd been forced to take them.
Turns out, vegetables are full of vitamins and nutrients that help you grow!

I decided I would go super in depth on this on my patreon and also go into the 7 month back and forth that would've completely changed everything about the logo and experience of watching the show.
It's here if you'd like to read it!

Like again, it's clearly a supportive thing, but I just want some context.
I tried looking it up but all the articles I'm finding are either AI or random people on reddit giving differing opinions from over a decade ago and I just don't trust any of it... so... I guess I'm asking random people on the internet instead.
I spoke at a college last night. I noticed some students snapping their fingers when I said stuff, and I'm sorry that I'm a million years old, but what's that?
I've seen black women organizers and drag queens do it. Seems to happen when someone is like "YES KEEP TALKING" but doesn't want to clap?
Oh, I could scream about this for HOURS.
But suffice to say: This is what happens when large studios don't want to fund original projects, anymore.
They make Scooby-Doo for the 16th time, and the hot young talents goes off, runs a Kickstarter/gets backed by Glitch, and succeeds without them.
Psst, hey kid, wanna see some good news?
I have a perfect idea for fixing and funding this app simultaneously: make each reply cost $1, to be refunded when it is liked by the OP.
Yeah I thought about that one. It was kinda fun!
Yeah Iike that some food hobbies take up space in your stomach, and then the toilet, and then that's it. No spot on your shelf that needs to be taken care of for eternity!
I think I wanna buy a bunch of those little korean rice logs and just make tons of different kinds of tteokbokki and see if that's becomes my new hobby.
What if tteokbokki was hobby?
I agree. I don't think I've said it, but this whole time that I've been watching you make that transition I've been like "damn! She's really doing it!"
You've been doing something really admirable and a bunch of companies laying everyone off isn't a reflection of you, your work, or what you've done
It had it's merits. It definitely harkened back to classical children's literature, for sure. It just sort of changed as I played with it though. ๐คท

When I watched The Animatrix and saw Second Renaissance as a kid I remember being like "Oh those poor robots" and now I'm like "Yeah! Gettem!"
I spent days working on this, handed it off to marketing and legal, and thought that would be the end of it.
Turns out, they wanted to use fonts that were free (even though this was hand lettered) and sent it back to me with versions of the logo done in Impact, Arial, Futura, etc.
I got maaaaad.
1) The art director rightly pointed out that it doesn't really feel like the infinity symbol anymore, it's more like a sword or something.
2) We would've had to file for a new copyright for the logo design in every country for every season, which just wasn't feasible.
I was really into that middle section for awhile because I thought it would be cool to have that top right section be slightly different for every season, reflecting the title and themes of the season.
Two reasons I didn't do it though:
Here is a screenshot of me figuring out the title logo for the Infinity Train TV series vs. the pilot:
Honestly, that's fun, but it's like a hydra: one goes down and 2 more take it's place.
The biggest victory this year has been US courts saying definitively that generative outputs can't be copyrighted, even if it's trained on your own material, which means corporations won't want to use them.
It's also crazy how much it has improved the reputation of artists among the average person.
Before generative imaging came along, I never saw normal people go on long rants about how crucial artists are. Yes, a lot of people still don't care, but people who do are much louder than they used to be.
The best thing AI has done is expose to the average person just how many CEOs are total dumbasses that don't know how their own companies work.
Within your own company you often know they're a dumbass, but usually they were good at hiding it to people outside the company.
So that's nice in a way.
Noticing that a lot of the videos of the guy lighting fire to the warehouse mute the part where he says over and over again "all you had to do was pay us enough to live"
