The most important thing is if blueski ever just shut off its servers because they have no plan at all to make money you’d still be on the protocol and there’s alternatives like Blacksky now that run the full stack so you can’t be deleted. Also currently if your account got suspended by blueski..

The big difference is your username would change, you would now user@rvagc.social but the system is smart enough to resolve either your old name or new one to the “new” account. Migrating brings over everything, posts, follows, subscribed feeds, likes, etc. this is a key difference from mastodon.

That can host like 20 or so accounts/repos. It interacts with BlueSky the same way their pds’s do with all the same endpoints and functionality. Like today when everyone was having issues I didn’t experience any of them. Of course my server could go down too but it’s pretty robust.

So at the base level all of your data in stored in a repository which is like a tiny database. Bluesky has a couple hundred servers with 300k of these or so on each one but you can also host your own data so you don’t rely on them. This allows you full control of your data. I’ve got a small server

This one seems to be down right now but you should try it instead of discover. It works by finding posts from people who have liked the same posts you have. You will get the odd naked person but just hit “show less like this” and the feed is very responsive.
