Moving beyond gender: a systematic review of diversity data gaps in prospective trauma research Background: To better understand heterogeneity in PTSD development and to ensure that knowledge of risk and intervention mechanisms is available for a diverse group of trauma exposed individuals, p...

🚨Our new systematic review identifies diversity data gaps in PTSD research.

🔹 Middle-aged, well-educated, and non-marginalized groups were overrepresented. - Although marginalized groups and those with lower SES are at increased risk for PTSD.

These findings show that PTSD-specific psychotherapies—especially TF-CBT—don’t just ease PTSD, they also substantially reduce comorbid depression, which is ecouraging for clinical practice.

Thank you very much to my co-authors Anna Lindemann, Lotta Höfer, Ahlke Kip &@nexh-morina.bsky.social! 🙏☺️

• Rates of response/remission for TF-CBT were 3× higher than passive controls.
• Other interventions showed similar effects relative to controls. Yet, data was scarce for other interventions, particularly mid- and long-term data. More research (incl. long-term assessments) is needed.

Our analysis of 136 RCTs (N=8,868) found that:
• Most evidence accumulated for Trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT)
• TF-CBT led to large reductions in depression vs passive controls (g=0.97) and moderate vs active controls (g=0.50)
• TF-CBT outperformed non-trauma-focused therapies in various analyses

This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), evaluating the efficacy of psychological interv. in reducing comorbid depressive symptoms in adults with primary PTSD. Most RCTs in the field of PTSD also assess comorbid depression as a 2ary outcome.

Cognitive behavioral therapy skills via a smartphone app for subthreshold depression among adults in the community: the RESiLIENT randomized controlled trial - Nature Medicine A trial that used a master randomized design found that the skills commonly found in smartphone-based cognitive behavioral therapy, when tested alone or in combination with behavioral activation, were...

Published today in Nature Medicine. In one of the world’s largest RCTs of its kind (n=3,936), a smartphone app teaching 5 key cognitive-behavioral therapy skills improved subthreshold depression—and the effects lasted 6 months.

What’s the most effective way to deliver exposure therapy for anxiety? We tested:
🔹 Behavioural experiments (BE)
🔹 Cognitive restructuring before exposure
🔹 Habituation-based approaches

BE had the best outcomes.

However, more (rigorous) studies are needed to increase statistical power of future meta-analysis and certainty of evidence. Future studies need to investigate long-term behavioural impacts. For the time being, long-term data of behavioural change remains scarce in the field of SC-BCTs.

The low cost and scalability of SC-BCTs (e.g., delivered via a few emails) make them promising candidates for large-scale interventions. While effect sizes were generally small in magnitude, they were statistically significant.

3) performance (e.g., increase course grades or brainstorming performance), and 4) service (e.g., increase volunteering or donating).

Certainty of evidence (based on GRADE criteria) was low to moderate, depending on the analysis.

SC-BCTs were found to be effective in terms of behaviour change. Efficacy was found across 4 domains: 1) health-related behaviour (e.g., increase sunscreen usage or decrease alcohol consumption), 2) climate action (e.g., decrease electricity usage or gas usage), ...
