I stumbled across a games show in Kensington, and this game called THE MAGIC OF INVENTORYING (think Marie Kondo in a Dungeon) delighted me.

The gameplay is delightful, the art is unique and perfect, and yes, I backed the (incredibly reasonably priced) Kickstarter.

So, the answer is “yes I have” and “apparently I stopped just before the antlers last time”

Halfway through watching Antlers trying to work out if I’ve been halfway through watching Antlers before.

I literally do not know how else to explain “learning how to do something is what makes you able to do the thing”

then you know in your heart of hearts that you did not express yourself, did not communicate what you tried to, did not create.

If you were unable to conceive of the thing; if you are now unable to engage with its voracity or test its merit because what you lacked before is still lacking; if you are standing over a thousand words you did not write and being asked to decide if they are what you would have said

People try to refute this by framing ai as an assistive technology, but it is not. It’s choosing to take a helicopter to the shops when you could use a bus. It’s not a walking aid or a wheelchair. Not a way of expressing, but a proxy for the ability to express.

If media produced by generative ai is an integral part of your ability to create something, and it being taken away would mean you are unable to create the thing, then you were never creating it.

I feel like if the researcher in ai ethics is approaching the question from this angle, then it’s kinda clear where they stand, ethically, on the use of ai.
