So you're absolutely right, it's a shame they're not using the newly-created classic series audio descriptions on BD. Especially since the audio navigation menus invite it!
Yes, that's true! Though The Crusade only used the William Russell narrated soundtrack on the missing episodes 2 and 4, it wasn't an audio option for the extant episodes 1 and 3 despite having been released as a complete audiobook. So they seem to have drawn a line there!
Are the audio descriptions the same on the 2005+ DVDs and iPlayer? I've not checked but I expected them to be totally separate. No inside knowledge about it, but I imagine the agreements for the iPlayer versions didn't cover BBC Studios releases.
And it would just make work for MArk again! 😅
Re: the audio option, there's almost certainly some timing differences between the actual episodes and the audiobook versions - some sections will have been extended to fit in the narration. The overall running times are notably different! Plus it would make extra work for Mark Ayres to sync them! 🙂
Ohh - I hadn't spotted that! I am sure it's on The Awakening disc simply for space reasons (bit more room to fill) but that typo is fun.
I was pleased to see the narrated soundtrack for Warriors of the Deep turn up, I've always thought they should be included if possible! 🎧

Got up early to check this out ASAP, and was delighted with it - what a great edit! It's got a serious, dramatic vibe where the story calls for it, but still allows for Clangers and sandwiches! The TWBTLATS line gave me the shivers. Very excited for tonight!
