Sailboat in the air on a travel lift in a marina on a cloudy day
Nymeria Update: We get a break from boat chores and get to stay in a hotel for a bit. Nymeria is going to be in the yard to get new bottom paint and her water line raised so that we don't look so heavy and low in the water. #sailskye

Small boat with headsail out. The logo of a wolf on the sail. Sun shining through the clouds that speckle the sky.
Just a lazy motor-sail up the North Carolina ICW (intercoastal waterway).

Happy sad to be back in the states. Also feeling super accomplished by having completed the epic, for us, passage back.

Tentative departure plan is to leave the Sea of Abaco on the 19th. Weather looks to be good for a trip to Charleston but maybe all the way up to Southport, NC. Of course “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

This is how @shannonerickson.me usually drives Nymeria.
Standing on the seat for visibility, main navigation and autopilot running. Ipad and Phone setup for separate chart references. (Lots of shallows to avoid)

Night time photo of a cloud to ground lightning strike over Hope Town Harbour filled with boats
Hope Town Harbour had a lovely light show last night and luckily there's been no reported boat strikes. Nymeria, one of the masts on the right, enjoyed the gentle rain and light breeze that accompanied the show.
Thanks to S/V Summer Salt for the Pic!

Slow down, You Move Too Fast…
Our trip here in the Abacos hits a bit differently this time around. We’re taking things a bit slower, hanging out with friends a bit longer, and just not trying to rush through this experience. We…
We've been making an effort to be off our computers and to live more in the moment, so we haven't posted in a while. Here's a quick rundown of what we've been up to for the last few weeks. We've tried to not let the multiple cold fonts with gale force winds stop us from enjoying ourselves!

A group of friends smiling for the camera on the back of a catamaran
We had a lovely meet up with some new and old friends while hiding from a blow in the protected harbour of Man O War. We were all tired from experiencing 35+ knot gusts for about 24 hours but it didn't stop us from getting together to connect and swap stories. Fellow cruisers are the best!

Nymeria has taken the recent weather/waves in stride but I'm ready to have a nice restful sleep.
Glad that we previously swapped contact info with a fellow boater so that we could help out when their anchor lost its holding. We hope to meet up again in calmer wind to swap stories over a beer.

Love it when @larakin.systems makes these videos. Sometimes pictures just don't do it justice.

@shannonerickson.me sitting at the bar with a mimosa staring at her phone which shows the Predict Wind weather routing.
Screenshot of the Predict Wind app showing routings for our sail to the Bahamas. Most tracks align meaning the predictions are reasonably trustworthy.
@shannonerickson.me is doing our weather routing for tomorrow. Everything looks good for an offshore low wind motor-sail to West End Bahamas.

Owning a sailboat isn't always sunshine and sandy beaches. It's also being the tool wench while @larakin.systems does some boat yoga in tight spaces to fix a leaky fuel line.

So excited that the Bahamas are only one passage away. Now we just have to do some previsioning with groceries and spare parts while we wait for our window of opportunity to make the crossing.

a map of Florida with our sailing route heading south from St. Augustine to Fort Pierce.
Nymeria Update: We're heading offshore tomorrow morning for Fort Pierce. It's supposed to be a low winds and waves from behind to push us the 160+ miles to the Fort Pierce City Marina. We'll leave out tomorrow morning with the sun and hope to arrive mid afternoon on Monday.

We're moving south for the winter, again. We're making the trek down the east coast in search of warmer temperatures and clear blue waters. - @shannonerickson.me ournextadventures.com/2024/11/23/t...
