This was perhaps my favorite session, thanks Clare and Vibhor!

Wow that is amazing, seems like a similar situation to Nokia in Finland, early 2000s or so.
Great news! Proud alumni here.
Ok, quick thread on why DeepSeek is blowing up assumptions about LLMs and maybe the whole (U.S.) AI industry. DeepSeek is an AI lab funded by a Chinese hedge fund, their AI code is open source, meaning freely available to use, which most big U.S. models (aside from Meta’s) are not. That’s the start…
The comic that got us demonetised on Facebook back in August. (We’re no longer on Facebook).
Please stop saying "rolled back diversity goals" and start saying "the company capitulated to a segregationist movement."

I find reading news in written form, preferably long- form, in-depth reporting helps. But I realise this is easier to do for some news stories and others.
Trying to tie up some loose ends before a Christmas break. Just submitted my second review of the day. Email inbox is in decent shape. An AOM proposal still needs some work. Large amounts of coffee are being consumed.
I've always had similar thoughts, and have tried to embrace this thought that if I write for an hour or two it was a good work day, regardless of whether I completed everything else I had on my list. This doesn't always work, but sometimes it does.
Nice! A lot of interesting stuff coming out of the @weizenbauminstitut.bsky.social and this research group on this topic.
Important perspectives on the work and workers that happens behind the AI models and many other technologies many of us take for granted: methodslab.weizenbaum-institut.de/2024/12/04/s... @weizenbauminstitut.bsky.social
Highly recommend Jana's book, thoughtful and diligent fieldwork and a breeze to read (I can imagine this working quite nicely for a UG/PG elective).
Thoughts:
- Fieldwork in a pub this Saturday says Guinness is still flowing in abundance.
- I wouldn't call splittig the G a viral challenge, it's more of a time-honoured tradition.
- Can we please not make one of my favorite drinks about Kim K or any other Kardashian.
I appreciate the concern of my friends and family back home, many of whom have this morning shared with me this story of 'Guinness running out'. www.hs.fi/maailma/art-...
This seems like a fascinating read, the e-book is open access as well! www.e-elgar.com/shop/gbp/how...
They must not have counted Trenitalia operations in the UK (own 30% of Avanti West Coast, which I've had countless nightmares with)😅 SBB is amazing.
Susan got up onto the dais. There was something odd about the things around her. Of course, there was everything odd about the things around her, but it was a huge major oddness that was simply in their nature. She could ignore it. But there was an oddness on a human level. Everything was just slightly wrong, as if it had been made by someone who hadn’t fully comprehended its purpose. There was a blotter on the oversize desk but it was part of it, fused to the surface. The drawers were just raised areas of wood, impossible to open. Whoever had made the desk had seen desks, but hadn’t understood deskishness. There was even some sort of desk ornament. It was just a slab of lead, with a thread hanging down one side and a shiny round metal ball on the end of the thread. If you raised the ball it swung down and thumped into the lead, just once.
I decided to give ChatGPT a try, to see what all the fuss is about. Its responses were staggeringly vivid and realistic.
But there was something slightly off too. The uncanny valley of prose. I couldn't put my finger on it until I read this passage from Soul Music (Terry Pratchett, Discworld #16).
Huge congratulations to all our graduates joining us on campus this week! 🎓 🎉

Surely a deepfake
I had never seen this before 😅
Proud to celebrate the Finnish independence day in Liverpool today! Despite pesky internet rumours, I can confirm my home country does and has indeed existed for 107 years now.
And yes, I did got to sauna this morning (at the wonderful Wyld on the docks).
Congrats!
Hi Koen, could you kindly put me on the list? Currently studying the work of EDI expers in the UK.
Fascinating topic, I'm sure this will be a great SI.
Question to fellow management/orgs scholars: How many co-authors on a paper is 'too many'? Question prompted by a paper I saw today with nine co-authors.
Katharina needs to get on bluesky asap 😎
I used to detest spreadsheet crunching in my business undergrad, but turns out its been one of the most useful things I learned!
I'm a big fan of excel for organizing thoughts/data/analysis. It's always felt more intuitive and flexible than dedicated qual software.
