Top view of a flipchart (97.5cm x 65cm) with a 2.5cm grid. On top of the flipchart, at the bottom left of the picture, lies the book “Patterns of Fashion 1: Englishwoman’s dresses and their construction. 1660-1860”. At the top right of the picture is a notebook, half out of image.

European costumers: 123inkt.nl (dutch stationery store) has flipcharts with a 2.5cm grid that you can use to enlarge historical patterns!!! So stoked to not have to draw my own inch grid that’s inevitably crooked 🥲🧵🪡

18th century mitts made from a secondhand woolen scarf. Cut on grain instead of on the bias bc the scarf was narrow, so it’s a squeeze but they’re nice and warm 😌 🧵🪡

A burst of sunshine for anybody who needs it today, the cheeriest of yellow silks tweaked, crimped and ruffled into an early #1780s gown, white accents provided by the lace cuffs and soft fichu tucked into the neck @kunstmuseum.bsky.social

I’m so obsessed with the Ruth Goodman historic farm series. Currently going through the Tudor Farm and I can’t believe I didn’t see this sooner 🥹

Really considering going back to school for conservation/restoration while still working at my current job (data analysis and project management).

Incoming career switch?

I Was an Incarcerated Firefighter. Here’s What I Want People to Know. California recently voted to preserve forced prison labor.

"The work was rewarding, and at times I loved it. It gave me a sense of purpose in a place where it’s hard to find: prison. But make no mistake, neither I nor my work felt dignified or valued." ⤵️

Nothing more demotivating than being stuck inside an office all day and slowly watching the first sun of the year go down 😭

"No one ever thought this would happen" is dishonest and journalists not pointing that out are doing you all a disservice. Many people said word for word this would happen. You just didn't respect those people. And you need to be honest instead of the feigned surprise for sympathy.

Gonna start leaving out a saucer of milk any time I have to sew sleeves now to appease the little buggers. In any case it might help with setting in sleeves 😅

There HAVE to be fairies. I even remember thinking “this fabric doesn’t have a good or bad side, i gotta make sure I don’t switch em up” 🥲🥲🥲

Just made two left sleeves and didn’t notice until everything was overlocked and I had handsewn the cuff on.

Really proud of myself for not ending it all right then and there.

Nazi.
Shit.

This is no different than the first Nazi book burnings. It's just happening digitally so there's less smoke and fewer photographs for posterity.

Detail of an 18th century robe showing the Watteau pleat and colourful blurry floral repeat against white striped turquoise

The striped turquoise of this #1760s robe a la francaise dress is disrupted by blurry blooms created by a technique called chiné a la branche, whereby warp threads are grouped together prior to weaving. It is beautifully indistinct against the sharp lines of white, V&A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
