Sadly, yes, it seems the AI writing assistant in LinkedIn might be patient zero.

The solution is to spend less time on LinkedIn, home of the pointless contrast, punctuated with contrived dramatic pauses.

Some lichens used to be used as dyes. I have fond memories of collecting them on the moor above our village with my mum, to help her make some zinging colours for a jumper. Probably about 40 years ago, but the jumper is still going strong.

How did you resist the urge to change your name to Cliff?

Meanwhile, in the developed world, people get to "just sit" for their whole journey to and from work, because they have decent public transport available.

The guy who'd had obviously drawn the short straw and had to interact with the US president displayed a fascinating example of linguistic accommodation by pronouncing 'moon' with a more fronted and lengthened vowelโ€”"mรถรถn"โ€”just as Trumpster Fire does.

Can't stop thinking about the differences between the two conversations the Artemis II astronauts had with their respective country leaders. With the Canadian PM, they were laughing, relaxed, visibly happy to speak with him. Quite the opposite with the other guy.

#1, although I should point out that 'weird children' is a tautology, because all children are weird, it's just a matter of degree. You either mean 'weirder children' or 'the weirdest children', although I suspect the latter, because the moon never granted any of my childhood wishes.

I've often wondered whether it would be possible to make a career out of proofreading academic writing on Tibetan Studies and Buddhist Studies, because this kind of issue MATTERS to me.

Let me explain: 'torma' is a regular English countable noun, so the plural is always 'tormas'. This is well establish, going back decades at least. The fact that the word is a loan from Tibetan doesn't change this.

Academic writing can sometimes be really frustrating. Loved Sam van Schaik's recent dip into the history of tormas, but he doesn't seem to have twigged that using the singular as the plural doesn't make you seem erudite, it makes you look out of touch.

What's on my schedule for tomorrow? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! For the first time in years, I have an entire day completely devoid of obligations. What an outrageous luxury!

I saw Krasnov's genocidal threat minutes after submitting my MA dissertation. My first thought: Why did I bother?

Hope it goes smoothly for you!

It's in! Just submitted my MA dissertation. Quite a slog, although I actually really enjoyed the last few days as it all came together. How shall I celebrate? Rest! I'm utterly spent.

Your 'most' there needs hedging.

There's a dormant volcano just north of Taipei. I was walking up there once and kept craving an egg mayo sandwich. Took me hours to figure out I was subliminally registering the sulphur coming out of the volcanic vents.

That's unlucky in Chinese, although only when they want it to be, not consistently, so there's probably nothing in it. I reckon a party would be a great way to transform it into something good.

Wholeheartedly agree. To show humanity as an actor, you presumably need to have some as a person, and they've picked excellent examples and counterexamples to illustrate that.

Had a conversation about Sweet Home then walked past a shop selling live bivalves, so now I've got Sweet Molly Malone stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

He was my brother's neighbour for a while, too, which might also be a good sign, perhaps. Anyway, TIL what 'milkshake duck' means. Only one decade behind, no bad for me!

Has the surging price of jet fuel finally made rail travel the less unaffordable option?

There are. I feel slightly foolish for not having noticed the clarifying context of the beginning of your thread, but at least the oversight has led me to the merciful recognition (even if it risks cheapening the Triduum) that they are both Bones in the nominal sense, not the verbal.

Are you talking about Dr Brennan or Dr McCoy?

At least Rose's will be completely unaffected by this.

Let the straight banana botherers make it their talking point. Meanwhile, serious politicians will be talking about lowering bills, reducing the inequality gap a bit, and tackling the climate emergency. People see the difference.

If I remember rightly, South Koreans have tried working around this by parking en mass in urban highways.

The Mughal emperor Akbar made coins with the legend Allahu Akbar, which can either mean "God is the greatest" or "Akbar is God". At least he had the good sense to leave some ambiguity.

Lots of chums still on Faceache, so I occasionally swing by to see what they're up to. Saw a friend's post about the Inside the Manosphere documentary. She wrote well about it, so I took the time to read it, but then my feed got flooded with hit pieces against Louis Theroux. FB is nearly as bad as X
