“Urging universities to adopt policies of ‘institutional neutrality’ can have the effect of stifling institutional action, as well as teaching and research on contentious issues; and can also impede the wider social role that universities play.”

Important survey on impact of HE redundancies. It's really important that APM staff fill this in too.

Anthony Adams rubbing hands together meme with the text "when your branch announces an industrial action ballot will open on march 2nd"
After a massive turn out in the indicative ballot, we're moving to make it formal.
On March 2nd, our formal ballot for another round of industrial action against Future Nottingham, compulsory redundancies, and course closures opens. If you are a member, make sure you vote! Let your voice be heard!

“DUCU believes that the timing of exits proposed in the VS scheme will cause massive disruption at a very sensitive time…when exams, marking, & processing of grades are taking place.

Today London Met collegaues, students and supporters were out in force againt vicious cuts.
London Met has a proud history of educating working class students, many from the local community and many who are the first in their family to go to university. We will keep fighting ✊
Remember in 2005 seeing the agencies spending tens of millions of £s building the campus for the local community to improve access to HE. There is something badly wrong with how HE is beimg funded by successive governments in the Uk for this investment to go to waste so soon

In the end, as the professoriate collapses, we will be speaking to those precious few who really want to learn and think and reason, who are told every day by our vacuous corporate overlords that the life of the mind is for chumps.
The self-destructive stupidity that AI celebrates hurts us all.
We're really trying to avoid more industrial action here, folks...! @tucneyh.bsky.social @ucu.org.uk @unisoninhe.bsky.social @timeshighered.bsky.social @danhollandnews.bsky.social @chroniclelive.co.uk @chionwurah.bsky.social
This is good, and Hannah Spencer sounds driven. But what really makes this article is the inclusion of one of John Harris’s typically outstanding short films, this one about Gorton and Denton, from the ‘Anywhere but Westminster’ series. Watch it.

With our current mandate ending, today sees the end of our current strike action.
Our new ballot over TU victimisation closes on Wednesday.
Our Safety Officer remains under threat and our employer has made no real effort to find a resolution.
We don’t want to have to strike again.

Unions enforce your employment rights.
Unions can help if you’re discriminated against or mistreated by your employer.
Reform doesn’t want you to have that help.
They don’t care how badly you’re treated at work.
They’re taking the piss out of you.
You should mind.

When I said that we need "Higher Education for humans to control AI" I was not joking.
Students that cheat using systems like 'Einstein' (sic) can be stopped. (Hint: HE is not a Learning Management System.)
Radical solutions are called classrooms, vivas & paper exams.

An excellent article summarising the strength of feeling on campus against the VS scheme and its timing, at the University of Dundee.

Sean & I wrote this.
Reform UK are topping the polls & they hope to repilcate Trump's policies here.
Reform are a threat to migrants & all marginalised people. They are a threat to education, trade unions & democracy.
We must mobilise to stop them.

READ ALL ABOUT IT @georgeclarke.bsky.social @ucu.org.uk The 'latest offer' from management @northumbriauni.bsky.social @andylong6.bsky.social offers no protections for hard-working staff: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
With a crushing sense of inevitability.
Thousands - literally thousands - arrested, people imprisoned for months. All for - optics?
The proscription made it a serious crime punishable by up to 14 years in prison to belong to or invite support for the organisation. More than 2,780 people have since been arrested for expressing support for the group, according to campaign group Defend Our Juries. Hundreds have been charged, mostly under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act, a lesser offence that carries a maximum of six months in prison, for activities such as holding up signs or wearing T-shirts.
This was so obviously wrong, you do wonder what government was trying to achieve with a couple of months of intimidation.

Not only are we on strike to demand @ucu.org.uk stop its year-long campaign of trade union victimisation, but we also vote again to make clear we are taking a stand.
The TU movement is united on one matter: you do not act unlawfully to one of our own.

THIS IS WHAT A UNION LOOKS LIKE. THIS IS WHAT SOLIDARITY LOOKS LIKE. THIS IS WHAT STANDING UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT LOOKS LIKE. IGNORE AT YOUR PERIL!
Staff at Truro and Penwith College will strike on Monday 23 February.
Management imposed a 2% pay award, half the level recommended by the AoC - thats a real-terms pay cut.
Fair pay. Manageable workloads. Proper time for students.
Government decision to proscribe Palestine action was unlawful, high court judges rule.
Huge victory for those opposing genocide. Huge wake up call for the Labour government.
It says a lot about the state of UK universities that @birminghamucu.bsky.social have had to negotiate over "recognition that union reps should not face detriment for union work".
It also tells us that all who work in unis need to be in a union.
