Imagine escaping the literal Nazis, making it to America, living three quarters of a century there making your life, and then this:
The president of the United States posted a video of him defecating on the American people. Many in my profession normalized it. This is a big reason why we are where we are.
I love the United States for the set of ideas it represents and the ideals expressed in the founding documents, even as I am unspeakably saddened by its present state. Make no mistake, America is neither blood nor soil but man's imperfect attempt at a more perfect union.

What a weird-ass Rapture. Only the Constitution disappeared.
"Go to an old cemetery. See all the baby graves from before the 1950s & 60s? After that, hardly any. That's when people started vaccinating their children. If you're unsure what to do to protect your kids, the answer is literally written in stone." — Michael Okuda
How quick we forget.
The thing about living in a human society is you either decide that everyone (except those for whom it would be medically dangerous) has to take VACCINES into their bodies or everyone (with no exceptions at all) has to take VIRULENT PATHOGENS in from those around them and, look, the first is better.
Using Gatorade to water plants because “it has electrolytes” is actually not as dumb as ending childhood vaccine mandates. One is dumb while the other is maliciously stupid, willfully negligent and harms kids.
We are officially dumber than Idiocracy.

Graph of polio cases and death rates from 1910 to present. Very high cases of 10-37 per 100,000 population per year, but they literally drop to zero after the polio vaccine became available in the late 1950s.
Picture of 30 or 40 people in "iron lungs" after succumbing to polio.
The graph shows what happened when the polio vaccine became available. Deaths and illness stopped. People begged to get it when it became available.
Reversing this is what Florida just announced it intends to do.

I mean, full disclosure I'm just running it right now in three VMs on my desktop, so I haven't even deployed this out to my small homelab cluster, but what I've seen so far is quite impressive. Thinking I'll replace the current ubuntu installs with this, but may try running kubevirt on it first too.
I've barely scratched the surface of it, but what I've seen of Talos linux is really cool (talos.dev). More or less the most minimal possible platform for running k8s on, easy to administer (in particular upgrades to both it and k8s are really slick).
Old Soviet joke for today:
A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around, and leaves.
After a long time of this, the owner says “Can I help you find something?”
“I’m looking for the obituaries.”
“The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade.”
“Not the one I’m looking for.”

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

On the off chance you're using Gitea's Debian package repository feature you may've been annoyed this year by debian testing refusing package signatures. If you upgrade to Gitea 1.24.0 and run `gitea admin regenerate keys --config /path/to/app.ini` they should work again.
