Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.
Poor Susan. Treated like a pariah for growing up (when the world really gave her no choice)
The Fellowship of the Ring chapter 3: "The thought that he would so soon have to part from his young friends weighed on his heart."
The Fellowship of the Ring chapter 3: "The thought that he would so soon have to part from his young friends weighed on his heart." (A handwritten excerpt)
In my journal of The Fellowship of the Ring I've just written a sentence so poignant and personal that my hand shook while I was writing it
I too face being forced to leave my home, moving away from my friends. Knowing that Tolkien grasped this awful feeling so well is strangely comforting

Also I bet that patient in her 60s wasn't facing another 7 years of full time manual work, or penury if her illness cost her her job

I'm resisting the urge to look at anything in advance, but this is gorgeous. I've missed the pair of them so much
The time has come: voting is now open for this year's British Fantasy Awards! Here's what you need to know before opening up the form...

One thing that makes me sad about the rising popularity of AI-generated slop art that itβs become another wedge in the loss of community. Where maybe a small business or organization might have sought out a likeminded human before, now just resort to the machine
Or perhaps -?- they're copying ROP in using made-up placeholder names for OCs. In which case it's bizarre to reference ROP so directly. And what OC could be so important that they outweigh Elladan and Elrohir, for instance?
That would be amazing, wouldn't it?
JRRT's legendarium sorta is about hope overcoming despair. But despair isn't brushed aside, it's sat with, taken seriously, recognized as a legitimate response to a world so full of shit. It's part of the experience, not merely a bridge to better things.
If they pronounced the NΓΊmenorean 'r' properly (Lloyd Owen, please demonstrate) then the names sound much more unalike. Or just make up a name that starts with, I don't know, a different letter?
Indeed!!
He's so similar I do worry they're going to Viggo-i-fy him with AI. That would be very disappointing when a new generation of Tolkien fans deserve an Aragorn of their own
Coltsfoot! Those scaly stems and the delicate flowers - unlike dandelions, the leaves come much later, and they're enormous. A real sign of spring
Rehabilitation of the Dandelion!
No other plant in the Netherlands attracts as many bee species: 107. In early spring, when nothing else is blooming, it is simply there. Meadow bird chicks that have just hatched depend on the insects that are drawn to dandelions. No dandelion, no insect, no chick.
Seems bonkers when Halbarad is right there π€·π»ββοΈ
