Honestly, if you calm down and your takeaway is still that you need to hit your kid, it’s scarier to me. You’re committing to that shit.

To say nothing of the quintessential “this hurts me as much as it hurts you” conversation and pressure to hug your abuser and make nice.
My experience is that application of punishment in these situations is often very inconsistent! You are a rat in a cage where you can never know the rules and predict what outcome you will get.
That shit drives people literally crazy. And we do it to *kids*.
I love this for you!!!
I read Nobody’s Baby, the second book in this series, yesterday! Waite has somehow created the perfect blend of cozy & clever mystery that makes you like humanity more.
They’re also short books! If your focus is struggling because of the horrors like mine is, these are a great choice.
I believe in you!
The only time I’ve missed a flight was because of a massive accident on the way there. But if I arrive too early, I always have books on my phone?? That’s not really a waste to me.
Oscar tripped me up too!
I have *never* thought about really taking up photography, but birding’s got me out here ready to throw my whole energy at it
My most firmly held birding belief so far is that birding is a gateway hobby to photography 😂
Fuck yeah you do!!
I think that was a very good choice!
I don’t need every book to have really clever word-level writing, but little nuggets like this are a nice boost as a reader, like finding a treasure chest.
“rumors whispered into reality” is a very pleasing turn of phrase!

Hey would you like a romance about two lesbians on a road trip to an ex's wedding where they're pretending to date + there's only one bed? What if there's some existential angst? I wrote one and the audiobook is on sale for 3.99

Does BlueSky want the animal facts I shared with the discord today while I was doing my zoo volunteer training, y/n?
Vibe coding is wild to me, like…I would not try to publish a novel that an LLM wrote in French for me?? I would want to know what it actually said! But that’s what vibe coding seems like.
Or like…buying ingredients you don’t know in a different country and trying to cook a meal with no context.
I heard it’s dog o’clock
I understand if “domestic dispute” is the language they want to use to differentiate from other causes, but “messy divorce” is a shocking choice to describe another man murdering his partner rather than her leaving him.
Thank you!
I’ve been curious about those movies! But I’m a horror wimp. Are they especially heavy on jump-scares or just very gory?
There’s a whole additional thing about men desiring teenagers and evangelicals seeing them as jezebels rather than children and feeling like pregnancy is a punishment for sex, but I don’t have the heart to untangle it right now.
Is it a mindfuck? Yes, absolutely. Evangelical culture is layers and layers of emotional and spiritual abuse that’s difficult to untangle.
But these statements aren’t fundamentally at odds with their goals, as weird as it seems.
Why can’t pregnant teenagers have abortions? Because people who are dependent and bound by shame are easier to control.
Their parents and churches can lock them in by necessity. Any eventual husband has leverage due to their “impurity.”
The hypocrisy is all about control.
It’s weird to hear them say this out loud, but evangelicals have been on the tradwife train for decades. You don’t need college, you don’t need job skills, you just need babies. Lots of them.
Dependent girls & women are easier to control, plain and simple.
Seeing a lot of people screaming about the dissonance of this & purity culture — v real.
But that dissonance doesn’t take into account that many evangelicals would be happy for girls to marry & start having babies as soon as they graduate high school.
(Bree knows this, just jumping off her post)
Good grief.
Wait, 6000 pages??? How…how many books?
In context maybe I’d pick it up, but not from previous knowledge, no.
Long Live Evil by Sarah Rees Brennan! Bonus points: it plays with the ideas of fandom and how it interacts with fiction and real life!
Her In Other Lands is also an incredible take on the magical school & chosen one concepts.
This is an excellent list!
