Yay! I remember him on ATV and Central announcing programmes and then presenting Look East for the BBC. The rest of the country might know him from being one of the few human faces to appear on Spitting Image.

And, as was discussed recently, there was a different cover this week for areas of the country who weren't about to get BBC2. (Did it feature Shakespeare?)
Cornetto box
Bought a box of six today. Chocolate was inside the cone and at the bottom - there was even a picture of the chocolate-filled base on the box. But they are so much smaller than I remember βΉοΈ
The sitcom where the President's people arranged for him to be shot inorder to boost his popularity? That could never happen in real lifeπ
Well, that was unnecessary πΆ
Nope... "Your money's safe with the Woolwich" demutualised (became a plc) and was bought by Barclays. Alliance & Leicester (where you get a smarter invester) went the same way as Abbey National and became part of Santander.
If you can't get enough TV clock re-creations, try this site... It can also add ghosting and other effects... mubd.net.au/tv-history/t...
WEBSITE UPDATE (2/2): A mechanical Yorkshire clock as seen in 1983, but I wonder if it was introduced in 1982 when Yorkshire updated its ident? Possibly the last mechanical clock before the electronically-generated one arrived? The hour markers resemble plant pot tags π 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg...
WEBSITE UPDATE (1/2): In 1982 when Welsh programmes moved to S4C, HTV Wales introduced a new ident which appeared to have been bodged together from other bits. The symbol was thicker than for the WEST version! (Based on @kecskebak.bsky.social's Flash files.) 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg...
Is that from Freetime?
Hey there! I wasn't aware - every so often it disappears and I have to nudge them, but I didn't spot it this time and it all seems ok right now, thankfully. But thanks for letting me know π
Look-in had ten years' head start. Where did Fast Forward fit in?
Fellow TV nerds may appreciate this live stream from a BBC GNAT clock generator www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0M9... (It's the prototype - hence the funky artwork demonstrating all the features)
On Boxing Day 1983, BBC 1 treated us to a special Christmas closedown clock. The following night it was a different colour! (See them both at tvark.org/branding/bbc...) @tvark.bsky.social @tvroom.bsky.social
Liking the https and the Christmas theme :-) How did the node.js conversion go? I have lots of Classic ASP on my site and I know one day Microsoft will stop supporting it.
sub-TV home page
For some reason I've updated sub-TV for the first time in 20 years (and that is not an exaggeration) - I've brought it into the 21st Century by converting it to Node, but you'll be pleased to know I've not changed the turn-of-the-century aesthetic. Videos are inline now! www.sub-tv.co.uk
WEBSITE UPDATE: To celebrate the start of festive continuity on BBC One, here's the 1984 electronic clock that was adapted for the season... 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg.... It may be this was reserved for closedowns only. And the white 'snow' shadow appeared in a slightly different position every night!
It's cold outside, but not to worry - I'll fire me clock up for heat.
This ad popped up in my YouTube feed earlier. Could someone lend Secret Escapes an 'o', they seem to have run out.
Yes - something like that!
As I recall, Pamela S answers and it looks like it's a 'heavy breathing' nuisance call, probably Mel Smith. Can't remember the punchline...
Was there a Not the Nine o'clock News sketch with Pamela Stephenson answering the phone with the same number? Or am I just misremembering the Victor Meldrew scene?
I believe Lambie-Nairn decided centre-justification was a neat solution for a design system that would need to cope with presentation in 4:3, 14:9 and 16:9. The balloon idents were filmed widescreen and there was even a widescreen closedown that was never used

Oct. 4th 1997 was also the first day of the main network's new name: "BBC ONE". (A similar update befell BBC2.) Here's the main network clock... 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg...
WEBSITE UPDATE: On this day in 1997, the balloon idents launched, on which the BBC showed off its new corporate logo. To celebrate, here's the balloon-era clock from Northern Ireland re-created. Thanks to @nmsni.co.uk for the background image. 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg...
Interesting user of the term "displays" instead of pages and weird that they call this "ITN's latest service".

From 1973 according to the Top 20. First time I've seen any early Oracle. 2-digit page numbers, monochrome, no graphics and all caps (ignoring the colour graphic of the queen which must have been from a later time).
Pages from Oracle in 1973 just shown on ITV News at 70...
