Great summary, but our country can't wait until the next election to stop this terrible damage. Time for the remedy that the Founders gave us. irashapiro.substack.com/p/seen-enoug...

It's wonderful to see a great leader join Bluesky, And with respect to defending our democracy, here are my latest thoughts.

Great point. At every key juncture, the damage Trump could do has been underestimated. Here are my latest thoughts on what to do.I'm sharing this post with those whose writing and thinking have meant the most to me during this terrible period.

With due respect to some superb lawyers, the idea that a constitutional crisis doesn't begin until Trump defies a court order is simply bizarre. We are in midst of an unprecedented constitutional crisis--the radical destruction of our democracy. irashapiro.substack.com

Disgraceful conduct. Soon, of course, Rubio will be rationalizing his behavior on the grounds that if he leaves, his successor would be even worse. That didn't work out for any one in Trump 1.0, and it certainly won't work out this time. irashapiro.substack.com

Tom Corry deserves admiration from all Americans. Resignations on principle happen too rarely in America. Other officials should consider taking the same hard step. For openers, how about Secretary of State Marco Rubio?

A strong Senate is the political guardrail that the Founders gave America. But the great Senate of the 1960's and 1970' vanished long ago, and the Senate's long decline accelerated during the McConnell era. The Senate Republicans failed to stop Trump when they could have, and they won't start now.

Darkness Over D.C. A difficult night for our nation and our nation’s capital. A challenging day ahead.

"The problem is that with Trump riding high, and with (narrow) Republican majorities in Congress, it’s more important than ever before that some Republicans in Congress stand up to him. But the fact that he’s riding so high makes it more unlikely..."

For Senate Republicans, appeasing Donald Trump is indeed more important than ensuring Americans' health, and, judging from the confirmation of Pete Hegseth, more important than our national security. Throughout the Trump era, no group has failed more disgracefully than the Senate Republicans.

Kudos to Senator Murkowski, who regularly demonstrates the courage and independence that in the past we expected from senators, particularly in times of crisis.
