Happy to say that Humanesis (2013) is now available in a snazzy open access format. I don't think I have it in me to recommend that anyone read something that I first drafted >15 years ago, but I'm glad that if anyone wants to they can do so for free!

It’s finally here. :)
Very pleased that the new Bitstance album, Frederick, is out! It's weird and wonderful in different ways than Array. Listen on Bandcamp at the link below, or on whatever streaming service you prefer. (Although it may take a day or two to be live on Spotify.)

Last night people bikes rode in the rain for bike lanes. Immediately @torontopolice.bsky.social were antagonistic. A dozen bike cops arrived early & took over the main gathering point. The bike cops attending were the same ones who had arrested the @fridaysforfuture.bsky.social Stantec protestors.
Jonathan Sterne managed to be an incredibly disciplined historian (he did the work) without being overly disciplined--a whole career of weird little essays. Not that he separated himself from his fields, he thought constantly about research as a social endeavor. Like this essay on materiality.
Hey! Are you an American considering a PhD or a postdoc, and the funding / academic situation just went absolutely bonkers?
Canada's federal funding awards just added eligibility for international applicants if at Cdn institutions.

An image of Aaron Swartz with the following text: "Meta illegally downloaded 80+ TB of books from LibGen, Anna's Archive, and Z-library to train their AI models. In 2010, Aaron Swartz downloaded only 70 GBs of articles from JSTOR (0.0875% of Meta). Faced $1 million in fine and 35 years in jail. Took his own life in 2013.
My heart ached when I was reminded that Aaron Swartz was prosecuted for trying to make academic knowledge more accessible to the public. Meta, meanwhile, is doing it for their own bottom line. I'm going to guess that no one at Meta will be looking at spending 35 years in jail for this.

I think because so many things have become unnecessarily hard we've conflated all hard things with being unnecessarily hard. And that's not true.
Re: the boastful/weird claims to invade other sovereign nations is predicated on the fact that Trump's narcissism is so severe he cannot even fathom the existence of other countries with their own cultures, concerns, and though he may have been to some places, he's only ever inside himself.
“The University of Pennsylvania is part of a group of elite universities facing a lawsuit accusing them of forming a “price-fixing cartel” to avoid paying financial aid… Lawyers say Penn and the other schools give preference to applicants from wealthy families while claiming to be need-blind.” 🙀
Reminder that this position for a Computational Visual Designer is still open!
