I get that they want to remove politics and stick to traditions of honoring heads of state, but now I wonder how the 1936 Berlin games would be covered today.

That’s exactly what they did when it aired lived this afternoon. Even weirder, Venezuela was immediately before the United States and then mentioned Maduro without acknowledging our involvement in that.

Venezuela was also very jarring as they talked about the turmoil in their country like we weren’t involved at all. I get that they are trying to remove politics and treat heads of state with respect, but oof.. feels weird and not great.

To be fair… NBC has always been very aggressive about taking down any Olympics coverage. They feel like they paid a lot for it and fiercely defend against third party rebroadcasts.

I watched it live and the NBC coverage had cheering in the stadium and had nothing negative to say.

Also incumbents have a huge advantage, even if only from name recognition.

Don’t forget that passenger’s airfare includes many taxes and fees to support the airports infrastructure and security. Meanwhile, the airlines continue to post profits and grow their value for shareholders.

I’d love for someone to ask her about her evolving position on issues and revisit some of those past topics. It would be super interesting to see what she has to say about them now, and how she came to hold those views, and what changed between now and then.
