Finally filled up my island on #TomodachiLife2 today. Most are my own OCs but I'm proud of the pop culture characters I made by scratch! I'm not a huge fan of how the face paint makes them not emote, so with the exception of one mii that it fit for, I did what I could with the basic tools

I think this is what happens at the point you mention, when it becomes "I could have literally anything I want literally any time I want without exception" - money has lost all meaning, but it's still super important in our society, so its meaning simply becomes "I'm winning"

the thing is, when someone's wealth gets that large, it's so abstract that it becomes just a number. they treat it like a score, and they're not winning unless A) it keeps going up and B) they have more than their rivals (i.e. other rich people). everyone else just becomes a tool to "win"

Why is wealth so aspirational when most billionaires seem like genuinely miserable people? At what point does the brain switch over from "Well, at least I won't have to worry about medical bills ever again"* to "If I don't control absolutely everything I will surely die?"

*In the States, anyway
