It always startles me when I remember that Hal was Parallax for only a couple of years. In my mind he's the "road to hell/good intentions" big bad that loomed over most of the 90s

DAY 11: One of the most badass pieces of DARKHAWK Art ever put to paper!

A panel from New Titans. Red Star, Phantasm, Pantha and Steve Dayton try to appeal to Pariah, who stands by a window. Red Star: I remember Pariah from when the universes collapsed*. He sought life, not destruction. I'll not let him destroy us now. Narration: * From the now classic "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Demand DC reprint it in one big volume -- Marv.
I kinda have to respect the hustle of Marv Wolfman going "make DC pay me royalties" in his comic
By what I assume is coincidence, on the way to the grocery store I heard some show on the college radio station doing what seemed to be a spotlight on solo Beatles tracks. The shaggy youth of today appreciate “Temporary Secretary,” and I appreciate that they do.
55 yrs ago this week, 4/17/71, all 4 former Beatles had solo singles in the UK charts:
Paul McCartney: "Another Day,"
Ringo Starr: "It Don’t Come Easy"
John Lennon: "Power To The People"
George Harrison: "My Sweet Lord"
All 4 songs still sound great, 55 yrs later.
Play 'em loud.

Celebrating Earl Norem on his birthday today
When Batman was created, billionaires were as rare in the real world as depressed vigilantes dressed as mammals.
Over the years, the number of sad orphans punching out wealthy penguin-themed casino owners hasn’t grown exponentially – but the number of billionaires has: shelfdust.com/2026/04/15/w...
This has nothing to do with comics BUT…I just backed this:

New Tales from the Crypt book on the horizon!
THE HOUR HAS COME! HE HAS COME! WHO IS BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL? WHO IS THE PROPHET OF ANTI-LIFE? WHO IS THE ROCK AND THE CHAIN AND THE LIGHTNING? ALL POWERFUL! ALL UNFORGIVING! ALL UNCONQUERABLE! WHO IS YOUR NEW GOD NOW AND FOREVER? DARKSEID IS.
I also watched the movie adaptation of Barb Wire for this, and as much as I really really wanted to be on the side of an industrial sci-fi action movie that is ALSO a gender-swapped remake of Casablanca set in a then-future fascist 2017…I guess I wouldn’t recommend it, ultimately.
But even this is probably too ambitious and putting the cart before the horse
No Golden City title but those characters are referred to on TV etc. in the background of the other three so we are familiar with the basic deal.
Then like six to eight months in, Golden City secedes from the US and it affects all the books.
I like the city focus so I think it would have been cool to do three titles: Arcadia (basically “X Meets Ghost”), Steel Harbor (basically a Barb Wire book with all those other characters as support), and Into the Vortex (loose team book with all those guys, kind of like a Defenders thing).
I have to tell you, I came away from this with a “How would you reboot Comics’ Greatest World?” pitch of my own as well. I couldn’t help it.
Haha. I’m sure Jim has let me slide on the occasional Batman error or technicality as well. Episodes are long enough already without us citing chapter and verse corrections at each other!
The position of names in the talent list on this promotional poster does not, perhaps, accurately represent how much most of them ultimately contributed to the comics beyond doing a cover or two.

NEW EPISODE! 1993 was a big year for the superhero startup universe, and Comics’ Greatest World was Dark Horse’s attempt, differentiated by its long preproduction cycle and a focus on RPG-style worldbuilding and interconnected character relationships.

I've been wanting to do this for a long time: here's a deep dive into the creation of the TIE Phantom from Rebel Assault 2 (1995). 🚀
And to keep with the mid-1990s vibe, this article is multimedia-rich, with plenty of videos and GIFs to make it more playful. 😎
STEP 1: Become talent recruiter at Marvel
STEP 2: I’m pleased to introduce the new writer of Fantastic Four (me, it is me)
Me and Grant Morrison back when we were working on The Filth.
I do get that fan spaces can be hostile, though. I’m sure there are folks on the X-Men subreddit who’ll be hostile if you say you haven’t read Dark Phoenix or something. People think they have to be READY.
…because it usually wasn’t affordable or even possible to be choosy about where to start. Now I could get a Marvel Unlimited subscription and have access to every Amazing Spider-Man issue ever. Now there is anxiety about having to make a decision and people feel compelled to optimize the experience.
I think to some degree we (a general nonjudgmental societal “we”) are a little spoiled by how on-demand and readily available our media is now. You would just start watching a sitcom halfway through season 2, and you’d just start reading a comic with the latest issue and catch up as best you could…
