This grant represented a critical effort to address the ⬆️ rates of maternal & infant mortality in the US, particularly among Black mothers & babies

One (out of many) experience I think about often is with a Columbia professor at SOBP in 2022. He didn’t ask about my research, just “Where is lunch?”. When he learned I worked at Yale, he said I didn’t have a “Yale accent” and that he only knew where Hungary was because of the “many addicts”.

I am from Hungary, I have seen this before. This is Orbán’s playbook on a larger scale. He has been in power for 15 years, and among many other things, his government has taken over academic institutions. Now science is in crisis, and researchers can’t receive EU funds. Terrifying times for the US.

We used publicly available data from the UKB, FinnGen, IEGC, PGC, and other smaller cohorts. We are so grateful to the researchers who shared these data!
Our findings support the necessity of trauma-informed care in endometriosis. This could even help avoiding further delays on the top of the average 7-10 years in the diagnosis of the disease.
Endometriosis PRS was associated with the disease itself, but we found no interaction with traumatic events, suggesting that trauma assessment could help identify individuals at higher risk.
We also conducted genetic correlation analyses between endometriosis and 23 trauma-related phenotypes, with the strongest associations observed for PTSD and childhood maltreatment.
These experiences included sexual, physical, and emotional traumas (see the results of our LCA below). We also observed that contact traumas (traumatic events involving physical contact with the abuser) also occured more frequently in patients.

Including >240,000 women (>8,000 patients with endometriosis), we found that patients reported more childhood and adulthood traumatic experiences.
