Coming back after a minute away to kvell about the major victory of AAUP & MESA V. Rubio. So proud to be part of the NYU AAUP chapter that joined the suit.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

My office windows on campus look out on the site of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory (now an NYU classroom/lab building) so not a day goes by that I don't think about corporate greed.

in case it's not obvious, these are just observations about MY workplace.

Confused by outrage over dems not walking out when Al Green left. How many people are willing to disrupt their workplace to fight facism? Most ppl think "disruption" is embarrassing, childish, lacking decorum, at best--in whispers--"brave." Most of us would rather wear pink and hold up little signs.

Colleges must stand up to the new segregationists (opinion) In rushing to comply with Trump’s executive actions, universities support a segregationist agenda, Subini Annamma and David Stovall write.

“We believe this rush to comply is a sign that universities are willing to become an institutional wing of the new segregationists.”

I feel like its not so much about being a Russian operative as it is about creating a global alliance of authoritarian dictators. they are just going for as much power and control of as much of the global economy as possible.

To truly live Dr. King's legacy means defending the right to speak truth to power, even when—especially when—that truth makes us uncomfortable.

Even when—especially when—the greater society moves to suppress that speech.

NYU faculty members—including my own doctoral advisor, who guided me toward my future work—have been declared persona non grata for exercising their academic freedom and moral conscience.

NYU students exercising their constitutional right to protest have faced harsh punishment on this very campus.

As deeply proud as I am of this honor in Dr. King's name, today I stand before you with a heavy heart.

This university, my alma mater, where I found my voice as a scholar, leader, public servant, and policymaker, has chosen to silence voices of dissent.

If you are an academic anywhere, or you send kids to university, I suggest reading this report in full. The "consumer" model of education on steroids (but only for some consumers).
