As much crap as algorithms get vs chronological feeds, I'm grateful that this is the first I'm hearing about them. Kinda hope it's the last too.

The crew arrived at my house at 7am with two suitcases of Nike's latest gear and dozens of Fuel Bands.

We filmed across campus, through Eugene, and inside the arena. Four weeks later I saw the final cut. Four weeks after that, it aired during March Madness, opening on my bedroom.

A week later, I got an email from Nike. They'd spotted my Nike Fuel Band in the shot & wanted to build a commercial around it for a March Madness "Counts" campaign, but they needed to move fast.

With help from the UO AD and fellow students, they planned a full shoot around an Oregon game day.

The story of how my college bedroom became the opening scene of a Nike commercial during March Madness.

Oregon handed No. 4 Arizona their first loss of the season and the student section, including me, stormed the court. Hours later, the photo was on the front page of ESPN.

Me telling my wife “if you have to go potty, stop and go right away” before we left the house didn’t go over well 😂

US Olympic Curling Team member speaks out against ICE:

"I'm proud to represent Team USA. But we'd be remiss if we didn't mention what's going on in Minnesota and what a tough time it's been. What's happening is wrong. There's no shades of gray."

We have a guy at my club who got the tools to cut his own teflon because it was worth his time to make pairs for members vs buying craigs or balance plus pods

Craig’s Curling Shoes is the most well-known shoe conversion shop in the US.

They’ve made shoes for former and current Olympians, including Team USA’s Korey Dropkin!

So the next time you see a curler sliding down the ice in flashy sneakers, now you know how they were made!

Once curlers realized this, things escalated.

Instead of buying stock shoes, they started building their own.

Nike. Adidas. Vans. You name it.

And that’s where a small shop in Minnesota comes in.

Curling shoes are actually two different shoes:

• A slider shoe
• A gripper shoe

The slider is made of Teflon, cut in different thicknesses depending on how fast you want to slide.

The gripper does exactly what it sounds like, it keeps you from eating ice.

If you have a sneaker or trainer you love working out in, odds are you want to wear that on the ice.

So curlers started asking a simple question:

“What if I could turn my favorite shoe into a curling shoe?”

Enter: custom conversions.

There are only four major curling shoe manufacturers:
• Olson
• Asham
• Balance Plus
• Goldline

That’s it. That’s the list.

But curling shoes are extremely personal.

The world of curling is highly specialized.

You can count all the curling equipment companies on your hands.

For example:
There are only 6 major broom companies, and at the Olympics you’ll usually see just a few of them.

Shoes?
Even fewer.

Have you ever noticed that some curling athletes wear bright, custom shoes… while most are rocking plain black dress shoes?

There’s a reason and it’s way nerdier than you’d think 🧵

They sound like a great group down there from the stories I've heard.

I'm hoping to get out to Bend Oregon next year for their brew-spiel which is on open air arena ice. Heard it's quite the adventure

I secured the handle before even asking the club 😅

Club is on the west side of the PDX metro area on the other side of the hill but we have members from all over including as far as Eugene.

Just a year ago, Team USA Curler Korey Dropkin's instagram was mostly videos of houses he's selling as a remax realtor.

Tomorrow he's playing for a Gold Medal with a Silver Medal already locked up

He came to our club for te Columbia sponsorship PR stuff and spent the entire hour he was there with our juniors.

Didn't have to be out there but he wanted to be out there.

Infectious personality as well
