The poster for Kleber Mendonça Filho's The Secret Agent (2025)

First watch: The Secret Agent (2025). Another film set in director Kleber Mendonça Filho's hometown of Recife, this time against the backdrop of military dictatorship and political resistance. Harking back to the 70s political thriller, the film has great texture and an immersive sense of place. 1/3

That’s what I keep saying at home!! 🤣

Indeed. Mubi is great for new and obscure stuff but BFI is great for historic and contemporary big hitters!

The Beautiful Ones YouTube video by Prince - Topic

I won't have time for as much Prince action as I'd like today because I'm doing an update course, which will be a full on day of cell and virus lectures. I did think it would be nice to post the very first Prince song that I was besotted with as a kid, still am 💜 youtu.be/oK1Jl8tLzls?...

Ach, really? I confess that I just subscribe via Prime on my TV and it has been grand. That is annoying!! Have they responded to your complaints?

13 hours ago 1 0 1 0

Already subscribing to Mubi and BFI. I think Criterion too might lead to divorce… 🤣😬

Stalker. Always Stalker.

Cool. There are some great wee gems that are still not widely available. I try to separate the art from the artist where possible otherwise I would be pretty limited in cinema choices (which says a lot about that world doesn’t it?!).

Han Kang’s book ‘Greek Lessons’

Currently reading Han Kang’s ‘Greek Lessons’. Her writing is beautiful in its variations and I am constantly re-reading lines of her prose (in admiration!). #BookSky💙📚

Sensual is exactly the right word for ‘Rouge’. I genuinely think that ‘Center Stage’ is an all-timer. Magnificent.

I meant to say, I think you had lauded Stanley Kwan films previously? Well, I watched ‘Rouge’ and ‘Center Stage’ today and adored both ❤️❤️❤️

This painting, titled "L'escalier" (The Staircase), was created by French painter Marc Chalmé, known for his mastery of shadow and light, often compared to Vermeer. His work captures "still light" in landscapes, still lifes, and scenes like this.
