More than 300 members of the SEIU Healthcare Minnesota and Iowa union voted to strike, demanding higher wages, improved benefits and safer staffing levels, which they said are contributing to a growing workforce shortage.

💛 The workers who were terminated with short notice still need support — please chip in if you can at bit.ly/cardamomstaff
👀 Missed today’s picket? Join us Sunday, April 19 for a brunch picket! ✊ Meet at 11:00 am across the street from the Cardamom entrance (725 Vineland Pl, Minneapolis, MN 55403)
Worker in picket line closes eyes to the shining sun as they hold sign saying “QR YOU KIDDING ME?!” the person behind them holds a sign saying “Shame on DDP”
A supporter holds a sign in the picket line saying “Shame on DDP” and the person behinds them wearing shorts holds a sign on a stick saying “The future has an ancient heart.”

A group of community members stand on sidewalk across from Walker Museum, one person wearing a baseball hat holds a sign saying “people over profit”
1. DDP workers must have at least two weeks notice before being fired and given hiring preference at other DDP locations.
2. DDP workers must be able to organize without fear of retaliation.
3. All DDP locations must sign on to 86 ICE (www.86ice.org) because workers deserve safety and a voice.

🗣️ PEOPLE > QR CODES. With only 3 days notice, Cardamom workers were let go to be replaced by QR codes in a decision made by owner Daniel del Prado of DDP Restaurant Group. (bit.ly/cardamomstaff)
✊ Today we stood in solidarity with picketing workers and their three key demands for DDP Group —
Take action now at bit.ly/protecthcmc We are the people who rely on Hennepin healthcare every day. We believe every person deserves care, regardless of income, insurance, or ZIP Code. We have stepped up. Now the legislature must act.
Add you name. Make your voice heard at bit.ly/protecthcmc Working people build HCMC. Working people depend on it.
We need action now. Workers, patients, and community are united in our demands. We call on legislators to act: protect workers. Protect patient care. Invest in public healthcare. No cuts to staff. No customer services. Full funding. No cuts.
✊ ADD YOUR NAME + share with your coworkers and networks! ✊ Join us in demanding lawmakers pass emergency legislation this session to keep this vital community resource open: bit.ly/protecthcmc
A message from healthcare workers, patients, and our community. Protect Hennepin Healthcare! Fund our public hospital. Protect care for all. Tell your lawmakers: save HCMC! From the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO and AFSCME Council 5.
Why does HCMC matter? Hennepin healthcare (a.k.a. HCMC) provides healthcare services to all of the states 87 counties. The institution trains 1/3 of Minnesota Minnesota’s medical residents. It provides care when no one else will. This is Minnesota’s safety at hospital.
The crisis is real. HCMC provided $104 million in uncompensated care in 2024. There is an estimated $1.7 billion in projected federal cuts ahead. On top of decades of under funding. This crisis is structural, not caused by workers or patients. There’s enough money. It’s about priorities.
What’s that state? 7000 workers and families are at risk. Loss of Minnesota’s only public level one trauma center. We’re all hospitals overwhelmed. Emergency rooms pushed beyond capacity. This impacts every community in Minnesota.
‼️ TAKE ACTION + TELL LAWMAKERS: Fund Hennepin Healthcare! 🗣️ bit.ly/protecthcmc
AFSCME Council 5, Local 2473 and 977, MN Nurses Association and others have sounded the alarm to save the state’s largest public safety net hospital. 💚 AFSCME Local 977 + 2474 represent more than 2,700 HCMC workers.
NEW REPORT: State data confirms that Operation Metro Surge had a damaging impact on Minnesota’s economy, particularly for workers and businesses in the Twin Cities.
