Must be nice to frame political disagreements as abstract debates rather than issues tied to survival, dignity, or rights.
And if someone is fighting against that, if they are framing you and yours as people not deserving or worthy, it’s never “just politics.”
So to frame someone’s harmful rhetoric as “just politics” or “difference of opinion” is to ignore the many MANY people who live lives that know politics isn’t abstract. It is about whether they and their families can live with safety, rights, and opportunity.
So when someone says ‘it’s just politics,’ they’re showing that the policies being debated don’t threaten their daily life, but that’s not true for everyone.
Breaking this down further: you are privileged af to be able to disengage and still remain safe.
For some people, politics really is just a debate about ideas, because their safety, healthcare, marriage, or rights aren’t on the line. That’s a privilege. For others, politics is about whether they can live freely, afford to survive, or be treated equally.
Being an author is like 10% writing and 90% promotion.

I wrote a book about autism that isn’t just “this is a book about autism.”
I think I did that.
I didn’t want you to fear my son.
I wanted you to know he likes to go outside.
He likes to spin barefoot in the grass.
He loves the park. Fries. Nuggets. Orange soda.
It’s a love letter to them both.
It’s how I fight assumptions that make this world harder for them.
It’s how I make them more seen. More known. More felt.
It’s for those who speak.
It’s for those who do not.
Mostly, it’s for my boys.
The one with no speech.
And the one who told me to have days when we didn’t speak at all.
Oh, it’s for the Littles. And the Bigs. And the young. And the young at heart.
It’s for the Autistics. It’s for the Allistics. It’s for the Neurotypical.
It’s for the disabled. It’s for the teachers. It’s for the therapists.
It’s for the doctors. It’s for the researchers.
So, I wrote this book, right?
And it’s a pretty awesome book.
Short read, about 600 words, 48 pages.
You could finish it in 8 minutes 48 seconds, even with time to show the pictures to the Littles.
