Saying ‘thank you’ to pediatricians while undermining pediatric care is like applauding firefighters while cutting off the water.

The NC KUH TRIO team represented at the 2nd annual KUH research conference #KUHRTN2025. It was a blast connecting with trainees all over the country and sharing our passion for high quality research. @kuhrtrainees.bsky.social
Sad to be leaving but even the view from the airport is beautiful. Mahalo to Hawai’i for the most beautiful vacation I’ve ever been on.
Stepped on one! Just a couple spines ended up in my foot though. And now I know how to manage a sea urchin sting, so I guess I can count it as CME 😂
There are sea urchins in that water behind me. Ask me how I found out. Otherwise today was a perfect end to the PAS conference and start to my vacation.
Come to 306 at 2pm! I was diagnosed with ADHD as an intern, when the workload finally overwhelmed the coping mechanisms I had used for years. Learning about ADHD as a disability and strength, an explanation but not an excuse, has been and continues to be a complex journey.
Free coffee at the Coffee Breaks- I’m on a trainee budget 🙃
I know #PAS2025 is being used on Twitter/X, but where are my #PedsNeph people going to be posting- BlueSky or X? The social media updates are one of my favorite parts of this meeting!
KUHR-TN Trainees- Submit your abstracts for the annual meeting today! Looking forward to seeing you all in person at the meeting in May.

Are you a patient with Alport syndrome? The 2025 In-Person Alport Connect meeting will be in Chicago on July 19-20th. Child and teen programming available. See you there! alportsyndrome.org/for-patients...
Congratulations to everyone who Matched today! To our newest pediatricians- let me know when you’re ready to discuss a career in the best subspecialty, peds nephrology!
Congratulations to Dr. Kelly Orgel, one of this year's recipients of the 2025 SPR Basic Research Award for Fellows Sponsored by the Emerging to Established (E2E) Section. @e2e-spr.bsky.social

Great time with lots of learning at the Annual Dialysis Conference #ADC2025
Are you effectively preventing VTE in your patients with nephrotic syndrome?
Check out our paper below on KI reports about this important topic. It's a fantastic collaboration with some truly brilliant minds! #NephSky @glomcon.org

Why does nephrotic syndrome (NS) present with periorbital edema?
I generally feel comfortable explaining why patients with NS have edema. But, why does it accumulate around the eyes? And, why doesn’t heart failure present this way?
Time for more Starling! And George Burch...
I’ve freaked out some families by showing pitting edema in the back. Some kids can really hide their fluid.
🔬 Genetic testing is a game-changer in nephrology, but it’s still not routine practice. This paper lays out a clear framework for when and how to use genetic testing in kidney care. 🧵1/4

I do think we need to pause for a moment and appreciate this title. 10 points for creativity.
Time to post this again
Big news in chronic kidney disease.
FDA approves Novo Nordisk's Ozempic to treat chronic kidney disease in those with diabetes, expanding its use cnb.cx/3CpEFfK
Not gonna lie, I was worried while trying to finish pulling together a review paper.

The trainee steering committee is excited to connect and network on bluesky!
Meanwhile, high blood pressure = "They get nervous around doctors." I'm always proud of our peds residents who check a manual BP and pay attention with follow up (usually happens after they've done a nephrology rotation!).
I am in constant awe of how new research helps me take better care of kids. But now, as I work to figure out my identity as a clinician researcher, I am scared for the future.
