Helped a friend rework a batch of boards with broken MEMs microphones. Took some images of the silicon membranes... First two are from broken samples, last two are from intact microphones. Our best guess is the CM used shop air to blow off the boards and destroyed the microphones with over pressure.

Hey! I'll be giving a short talk about IRIS tomorrow at the @hackadayofficial.bsky.social Berlin event at noon. I also have a couple copies of The New Essential Guide to Shenzhen to give away to anyone who wants it. Come by and say hi if you happen to be attending the event!
In case you missed it - my talk on non destructive inspection of silicon at 38c3 is now up: media.ccc.de/v/38c3-iris-...
Thanks to everyone who stopped by and said hi at the congress!
That time when you're debugging an image processing pipeline and discover... art?
also you would have to extract the battery from its protective case to measure it, and often times the cases are permanently sealed (eg glued or ultrasonically welded) for safety reasons.
batteries change dimensions slightly when charged and discharged, plus there are manufacturing tolerances. Perhaps for very small capacity batteries the relative tolerances are tight enough, but larger batteries I think the tolerance may be significant.
nice feature! thanks for pointing me at it.
Everyday objects have been turned into bombs. My analysis indicates this supply chain attack is surprisingly easy to do, yet hard to detect: www.bunniestudios.com/blog/2024/tu...
Also, hello Bluesky. I wish my bsky time line could have started on a happier subject.
