Except that none of these proposals breaks the link. I really was hopeful that this time it would happen but just moving Renewable Obligation contracts on to CfDs does not break the link in any way whatsoever.
Gas will still be the last and most expensive generator on the UK grid.

Court rules that commercial EV charger operators should only add 5% VAT same as domestic electricity, rather than 20% as they do now which deepens the charging divide between those who can charge at home and those with no off-street parking.
HMRC to appeal.

Iām so disappointed. I thought Iād missed something at first but theyāve come nowhere near breaking the link.
Other good stuff in the announcements but a real opportunity missed - why the delay?
I was so excited when I heard Ed Miliband announce that he was going to break the link between gas prices and the price of UK generated renewable electricity.
But, unless Iāve missed something, he isnāt?
Yes!!!
Good article by Polly Toynbee.
āhomegrown renewables have become the only route to financial security, energy security and national securityā

Suffolk Green MP Adrian Ramsey also opposes the National Grid Norwich to Tilbury proposals which will carry power from offshore wind farms to the national grid
Weāve got a pile of wild garlic leaves and flower buds in the fridge that we foraged yesterday - know what weāre going to do with them now!
Seven countries now generate 100% of their electricity from renewable sources, proving the transition is not theoretical but already operational. The barrier is no longer technology, but political will, investment priorities, and the courage to move faster.
Just as there were people who resisted the introduction of inside toilets, seatbelts, womenās votes, lead free toys etc Tice & his party are similarly reluctant to embrace what most people can clearly see is needed. Unimaginative, regressive, fact averse idiots.
Letās never let them run our country.
Every wind turbine and solar panel installed helps the UK become more energy independent and electricity prices more stable - and with records regularly being broken, and the Government approving the UK's largest solar farm today, this impact is clearly set to continue.

Tice and Badenoch along with their client media can bleat all they like but the Iran conflict spells the end for fossil fuels. Good.
Itās really mystifying why right wing politicians and media outlets are howling for more North Sea drilling, flying in the face of verifiable evidence that more fossil fuel is the opposite of what UK energy security needs.
And then you find out who funds them

Right now the U.K. is generating 71% of electricity from renewables - we are making MORE than we need. BUT all energy is set by gas prices which is expensive. The Government is now looking at decoupling gas & electricity THIS is a game changing policy we need. www.energylivenews.com/2026/03/25/l...

"Electricity generated from wind and solar is largely insulated from fossil fuel price volatility ā once built, the fuel is free."
This is what I told @dharna.bsky.social @theguardian.com who published this article.

Each year nuclear adding only as much net global power capacity as renewables add every two days. Game over.
Western carmakers are retreating from EVs just as oil hits $100 a barrel.
The parallels with Detroit in the 1980s are striking. They ignored fuel-efficient Japanese cars. Now theyāre ignoring Chinese EVs.
BYD just unveiled 600-mile range and 250 miles of charge in 5 minutes.

Every time thereās a fuel price shock, the same calls emerge: drill the North Sea.

The idea of a widespread public backlash against net zero is a right-wing confection ā a story told and sold by populist politicians and right-wing media.

āThis report sets out a simple emergency reform: decouple electricity prices from gas by having the system operator purchase power at fair and fixed prices,ā
Plus it can be implemented quickly using existing market mechanisms.
What are we waiting for?

The sun doesnāt have a āchoke pointā.
Here are the ACTUAL facts about North Sea oil and gas:
š¢ļø Extraction peaked in 1999 because it was privatised then plundered.
š Even with new licences, production will fall by 95% between 2026 and 2050.
š· Oil and gas prices are set internationally. More North Sea extraction wonāt lower prices.
This is exactly why fossil fuel companies, their lobbyists, the politicians and right-wing media donāt want us to use renewables and keep us addicted to their money making racket.
The Hinkley C UK nuclear reactor will produce 3.2GW, it will cost £50bn.
For that the UK could have built 40GW of Wind Turbines in 1/5th of the time.
Which would even on the least windy days of the year produce TWICE as much electricity.
Nuclear is an unnecessary RIPOFF.
Many interesting facts buried in this CCC report, eg:
ānearly half of the energy in gas is lost during combustion to generate electricity.ā
āEVs are four times more efficient than a petrol car so require a quarter of the energy to travel a given distance.ā
