Except that none of these proposals breaks the link. I really was hopeful that this time it would happen but just moving Renewable Obligation contracts on to CfDs does not break the link in any way whatsoever.
Gas will still be the last and most expensive generator on the UK grid.

UK to appeal against tax ruling cutting VAT on public electric car chargers to 5% HMRC confirms it will fight London tax tribunal’s finding that it has been overcharging for years under the law

Court rules that commercial EV charger operators should only add 5% VAT same as domestic electricity, rather than 20% as they do now which deepens the charging divide between those who can charge at home and those with no off-street parking.
HMRC to appeal.

I’m so disappointed. I thought I’d missed something at first but they’ve come nowhere near breaking the link.
Other good stuff in the announcements but a real opportunity missed - why the delay?

I was so excited when I heard Ed Miliband announce that he was going to break the link between gas prices and the price of UK generated renewable electricity.
But, unless I’ve missed something, he isn’t?

Seven countries now generate 100% of their electricity from renewable sources, proving the transition is not theoretical but already operational. The barrier is no longer technology, but political will, investment priorities, and the courage to move faster.

Just as there were people who resisted the introduction of inside toilets, seatbelts, women’s votes, lead free toys etc Tice & his party are similarly reluctant to embrace what most people can clearly see is needed. Unimaginative, regressive, fact averse idiots.
Let’s never let them run our country.

Great Britain has broken solar power records two days in a row:… The highest generating day was 14,414 megawatts - enough to power around 11 million homes across the country.

Every wind turbine and solar panel installed helps the UK become more energy independent and electricity prices more stable - and with records regularly being broken, and the Government approving the UK's largest solar farm today, this impact is clearly set to continue.

It’s really mystifying why right wing politicians and media outlets are howling for more North Sea drilling, flying in the face of verifiable evidence that more fossil fuel is the opposite of what UK energy security needs.

And then you find out who funds them

What does the Iran war mean for clean energy transition? Here’s what to know about how the current crisis could shape the expansion of renewable energy

"Electricity generated from wind and solar is largely insulated from fossil fuel price volatility – once built, the fuel is free."

Western carmakers are retreating from EVs just as oil hits $100 a barrel.

The parallels with Detroit in the 1980s are striking. They ignored fuel-efficient Japanese cars. Now they’re ignoring Chinese EVs.

Here are the ACTUAL facts about North Sea oil and gas:

šŸ›¢ļø Extraction peaked in 1999 because it was privatised then plundered.

šŸ“‰ Even with new licences, production will fall by 95% between 2026 and 2050.

šŸ’· Oil and gas prices are set internationally. More North Sea extraction won’t lower prices.

This is exactly why fossil fuel companies, their lobbyists, the politicians and right-wing media don’t want us to use renewables and keep us addicted to their money making racket.

The Hinkley C UK nuclear reactor will produce 3.2GW, it will cost £50bn.

For that the UK could have built 40GW of Wind Turbines in 1/5th of the time.

Which would even on the least windy days of the year produce TWICE as much electricity.

Nuclear is an unnecessary RIPOFF.
