Even though I like TMNT, this set as a whole isn't doing it for me. I'll maybe buy a bundle to open with some friends and get the spindown from, but UB fatigue is real. There's a couple of cards like this one that can fit into decks I play though, so I'm happy for those.

So is there just no way to know that a card was a promo? or will there be some other designation?

The ATLA cards are so much better than Spider-Man that it's crazy, it feels like so much more care was given to every part of this set. The biggest sad so far is all the bending mechanics probably/definitely will not see a return in future sets unrelated to this IP, and some of them are sweet.

The "source material art" cards are so godawful it's hard to overstate. Low poly FF key art and now bad jpgs. Genuinely a waste of cardboard.

The whole idea of "I don't want to give my money to bad people/companies" feels impossible on a large enough scale. Like the only way to do that is to reject basically everything about modern life- Not even just luxuries or something, like in unless you are living in the woods off grid it's futile

I also suspect that with Lorwyn coming soon there’s going to be a lot of cards with hybrid mana, that are intentionally design in this “either or” way because they have different effects and abilities depending on what mana was used to cast it. Thus they kinda have to do something, right?

My thoughts are that if a card was intended to be aligned in the color pie as *BOTH* black and red, it would have both in the mana cost as separate pips- Hybrid mana has always seemed pretty clearly to me like an attempt to show that this card could be *EITHER* color. Maybe I'm missing context?

I remember when the first card reveals were happening an actually pretty significant amount of influencer/creator positivity just based on those limited previews- Which also of course coincided with when preorders were first opened. It wasn't until later that people seemed to sour on it

It also was a little telling that there was even a question at all about negative coverage of this set. Like, even if you love it, considering WOTC usually insists that negativity around UB is pretty small (if loud), a question like this means to me that this is way more than normal.
