Last week’s Natural Pigment Red Squirrel painting session with the Canolfan Beaumaris Warm Spaces group. A great event that was part of our National Lottery Heritage Fund funded Magical Mammals project!

Mae’r wiwerod coch wedi bod ym Mhrydain am filoedd o flynyddoedd. Dim ond yn yr 1800au wnaeth rhai llwyd droi i fyny. Peidiwch a gadael i’n wiwerod coch ddiflannu. [image NRW]

The incredible story of the UK animal brought back from edge of extinction Just 5% of the population have ever seen a red squirrel. Samantha Wostear hears about the incredible efforts to keep the species going.

Thanks to the tireless work of conservationists, red squirrel numbers on Anglesey have risen from 35 to 800 - but these lovely creatures are still at risk of disappearing from these isles forever.

Brilliant effort by volunteer Alex who after a week of effort has caught a grey squirrel we detected on Anglesey. Red squirrel survival is because of volunteers like him.

We cleared Anglesey of grey squirrels. Our wild red squirrel population doubled, then we boosted genetic variation to get an x8 increase.
We rescued red squirrel from the brink of extinction and put them back into peoples lives. #MAgicalmammals

A fantastic picture of a red squirrel in Penrhos Park, Anglesey [📷Shirley Blease]. The species faces a very uncertain future on Holy Island unless developers do something quite amazing to mitigate for the 500 chalets they will build. I have my doubts that it is actually possible
