The heroes of Heroic.
I wanted to have their portraits being inspired by the work of Mike Mignola.
I'm pretty happy with how they turned out and it actually fits really well with the pixel art of the rest of the game! ๐Ÿ‘€

I believe this kind of technology is also using an AI model which recognize the shape of the body and face to extract them.

Another technique could be to use a luma key (it's like green screen, but based on luminance). But your background and foreground must have a pretty good luminance difference.

Unfortunately, you most certainly have to roto your subject frame by frame.
Nowadays there are tools that can help you speed up the process : the Roto Brush in After Effects or the Magic Mask in the studio version of DaVinci.
There's also some AI tools to do that, but... it's AI.

I struggled launching it on my computer back in 95 (we had to make a boot disk with my father. Good memories!), played it more than I can count and still love it to this day.

While making Heroic, I'm also casually working on another game called The Innermost Sea.

Replayed an hour of it yesterday. Ten years after, I'm still in awe. It's incredible. The way Trico interacts with its surroundings, both physically and with its behavior is truely spectacular.

It's always a good time to remember that The Last Guardian is a tremendously bold game and Trico is one hell of a technical achievement in video game history.

Didn't post in a while BUT I've been working on the game and actually coded a new mechanic.
Surprisingly enough, it seems to work as intended ๐Ÿ‘€

Also reworked the UI and I'm much happier with it now. Still need work, though.
